Re: REAL RUBBER MACKINTOSHES

Although I do have some nice thick PVC rainwear, I far prefer my SBR trenchcoats as many still do. Yes, they do require some maintenance though with silicone polishing and sometimes new collars, but they are magnificent rainwear and normally inspire some nice comments by the few who can remember ...

Re: The good old days

Sadly, All thats left in the UK is the rare and overpriced e-bay find, quite rarely there are still some Yacht chandlers which have the older PVC sailing oilskins you can buy still. I have recently bought a very nice long Blue traditional shiny PVC hooded raincoat from Farmerrain in Sweden, they ...

Re: Macs in the media.

There used to be an excellent list of rainwear media a while ago on the Rainwear lounge site sadly now gone, but my favourite film has to be Mogambo, in which beautiful Ava Gardner walks through an African jungle in a blinding rainstorm wearing a gorgeous Black heavy PVC mac and souwester.

Re: How is RKD rubber's rainwear

Three weeks ago the rubber raincoat I ordered from them arrived from RKD. It is a Black sbr Rhine style mac. The quality I have to say is very good, although it is a thinner rubber than Weathervains coats and not as shiny it is really comfortable and it could easily handle any monsoon conditions ...

Re: Am I the only one?

As far as I can see there is a paradox that exists -that I have seen anyway. In these supposedly enlightened times nobody is supposed to say anything detrimental or negative to anyone, you can dress how you like, have your hair any colour you wish without fear of reprisal etc etc. I see many people ...

Working on a construction site.
When I was growing up the builders and jcb drivers all wore thick pvc macs from famous army stores.

Re: Red coat and rubber boots

Nice video spitfire, Your films & photos are always so effective because they show raingear being worn naturally in everyday life, do you ever see others wearing sensible rainwear when you are filming ? It was lashing down here in Swansea today but apart from the thin short yellow jackets popular ...

Re: Rainwear shops

There were also plenty of shops such as famous army stores that sold good rainwear.
My favourite were the old government surplus stores in the 1980s and marine chandlery shops that sold thick shiny plastic raingear like the plastimo and Helly Hanson brands.

Re: matte vs. shiny rukkas

There seems to be more mat than shiny rukkas on ebay normally, did they make more of that style originally ? They are too expensive for the condition that many of them are selling for. Sometimes on the german ebay they have similar raincoats made by bormax which look quite nice and in better ...

Re: Rain

Come to South Wales. As Merv quite rightly states the south west and Wales has more than its fair share of wet weather.
Saying that it has been quite dry and bright for the last week, but it won't be long before the heavens open again.
