Peter Storm overhead smock type cagoules were definitely the waterproof of choice when I was at school. The showerproof Campari cagoules were also popular and came in 3 different styles :

Campari Pennine Jacket - drawstring hood and waist with chest pocket and two front hip pockets. Also a crotch strap to keep fastened in windy weather.

Campari Kagoul - a very long below the knee cagoule with side slits instead of pockets. I had a bright orange one at school. Rare but usually orange colour.

Campari Wallaby - shorter waist length with chest pocket and side pockets.

They're very rare but occssionally crop up on ebay.

A girl at school had a bright YELLOW Peter Storm long cagoule which was lovely

I also remember another girl had a Blue quite thin short Lord Anthony cagoule which had a crotch strap

Henri Lloyd 'Viking' smock is my favourite. Not the recent ones by Oi-Polloi but the original rubber lined ones. They feel amazing to wear, especially if you have nothing on underneath.
If anyone remembers the episode in The Good Life where Penelope Keith (Margo) has her yellow waterproofs on in the garden, she's wearing a Henri Lloyd smock. I'd previously always thought it was a Peter Storm until I recorded the episode and had a closer look.

Definitely over head thin nylon cagoules are the best for me but full zip ones are great too.

I have quite a few in my collection. Peter Storm, Campari and ones with the four or three stripes on the sleeves.

Would love to have a overhead Peter Storm cagoule but can't find any. I know they have reissued it but are a bit pricey from size.

Discoruss, size have a few on sale for £30 at the moment, I got the orange overhead and royal blue full zip. They're not quite as good as the originals but still amazing, they look, smell and feel great!

My favourite up to a few years ago was the Peter Storm smock cagoule, and my favourite colour was Royal Blue. My more recent favourite though are the old fashioned waterproof smocks by Henri Lloyd. Like the Peter Storm they were made from Bri-Nylon, but had a smooth rubber insides to them which made them feel amazing to wear. A few years ago Henri Lloyd re-released the Viking range of smocks, but these had a polyester lining and not rubber, and in my opinion weren't a patch on the old rubber lined ones!

It must've been either the Campri Pennine or the Lord Anthony that my mum owned. I definitely remember it was royal blue and the pockets and crotch strap were button-fastened. SOOO loved wearing that!
