in the 70s and 80s?

I have never seen it mentioned here, or noticed any raincoats in Australian TV or movies

seem to recall there was an episode (or more) of Home and Away where Isla Fisher wore a green plastic raincoat, there have been youtube posts of it but you can never find these things when you look for them of course.

Frankly ... no - they do not (other than boring "techical rainwear": shiny PVC or plastic almost never

Sure they did, in the sixties in Melbourne when I was going to school. On a wet day the number 8 tram was full of Melbourne grammar girls wearing blue, rather lightweight but definitely plastic raincoats. Many of the women (well girls at that time) that I was in love with (occasionally reciprocated) had gray plastic raincoats. Somewhere I have photos to prove it, but unfortunately can't post for privacy reasons. I guess Mason you are younger than I am?? Ah those days, I miss them so....
