I don't understand why the men on this forum don't buy their women good rainwear?
It could be PVC or rubber or rubber-lined mackintoshes.
I'd love to hear.
Is it fear or is it what?

Well we men do actually, (well I do atleast) but it just never gets worn as, or where intended- ie out and about in public when its raining.
I'd really love my partner to wear her PVC rainwear more often in general public, but alas so far no. Strangly though in the car she keeps one of those cheap disposable poncho type things which she tends to quickly put on when its raining heavy ect, but, as an casual observation no one ever batters an eyelid or gives a second glance when she does.
What we have got in reality, sadly never really leaves the confines of the house, or when it does on very rare occasions, only makes it as far as the patio or back garden during the odd rainy night during the summer months. Or if there's the proverbial full moon and a letter 'Z' in the month, just maybe out at night in the car.

Well that makes me very sad. Does the lady know what the rainwear means to you or just doesn't care? Maybe, it's because we are older. My lady especially loves ruber-lined satin mackintoshes from Weathervain because it keeps her warm and "snuggly".
Re: Is it fear or is it what?
I think a good new years' resolution would be for more of us men to make more of a concerted effort to get our ladies to wear the rainwear we buy for them more often in public.
My wife feels sexy in her rubberized satin trenches, but she hesitates to wear the black single-texture in public because she's self-conscious about the rubber smell mixing with her sweat creating a somewhat nasty skunk-like musk. So to combat that I bought her a heavyweight red double texture model which looks even sexier & more elegant and makes her feel warm & snuggly as well, but unless it's a chilly wet spring or fall day (which we had all too few of last year with the drought & all) she won't wear it because she gets too hot & uncomfortable, instead opting for her orange microfiber coat with matching rain hat (which she gets several compliments on & likes because she feels comfortable wearing it rain or shine) or her plain old tan cotton trench. Don't get me wrong, a classic belted tan trench is nice, but it's just not the turn on for me that rubberized satin is.
I suppose I should feel fortunate that when we need to run errands on the weekend & it's raining, or I can convince her to go to the park with me & the dog on a wet day that she will wear one of her hooded slickers & wellies without any prompting from me whatsoever. But I need to convince her to wear the rubber in public more often - you'd think the prospect of an extremely horny me would be more than enough for her, but for whatever reason it's not enough to overcome her discomfort at being hot & sweaty in public. Thus, they only seem to see action in the bedroom.

Re: Is it fear or is it what?
I think it may be fear of ridicule about wearing rainwear in public.
Though when Colleen and myself are out and about we have never had any negative comments.
But when we wore our Orange rainsuits on the beach in the wind a guy did comment that "You will be seen wearing that"
Yes true it is bright Orange!
But if our ladies do not feel comfortable wearing rubber, pvc etc then yes encourage but do not push the issue.
If there are macs in the car for rainy/windy days then when the time is right for them to be worn suggest it as other ladies get soaked wife/lady is warm and dry!

Re: Is it fear or is it what?
Perhaps Bill_P hits the nail on the head here when he says certain items make his lady feel hot and sweaty. I know the feeling having worn a plastic raincoat out and about on a wet warmish day. Would have been just as comfortable getting the tee shirt wet. There seems little point in wearing a raincoat to keep dry if you end up as wet under it anyway.
Re: Is it fear or is it what?
That is a slippery slope I have to admit : You won´t get wet from the outside but sometimes get wet from transpiration inside. That´s why I take my rainwear out on not too warm days.

My wife has worn PVC for many years and is happy to wear it on a day when a raincoat is appropriate and is often complimented on her choice of rainwear.
We are often out together both wearing our PVC raincoats and occasionally are congratulated on our practical rainwear..
