rainwear in Madrid

Post by rainfash »

have been in Madrid recently. it was 15 degrees and raining all day. lots of ladies wearing rubber boots, or carrying glass clear plastic umbrellas / brollies. lot of women wearing both., why dont they wear pvc raincoats, if they already wear wellies and brollies ????? not a single sighting, not even one lady wearing a raincoat. nothing, nada, niente, zero. not a tourist wearing a pvc raincoat, not even Madrilenos wearing a pvc raincoat. I havent seen any pvc rainwear in the shops.

Does that really surprise you, Rainfash? Where in Europe would you be sure to see PVC on the streets these days? Had you been lucky enough to bump into Susie Boult (who used to run 'Plastique Unique'), she would certainly have been wearing one of her PVC raincoats in the rain. (She and her husband, Alan, live most of the year in Spain, though not Madrid.) She has a collection of over 200, quite a few of them held in Spain. Then again she has always been a true afficionado.

most women are followers, and would not want to be the only one wearing a raincoat.

getting wet/keeping dry has little to do with what they wear

yes. but why did the wellies and brollies get popular again ?
they really had disappeared from the streets in the 90s. and they are made from rubber / plastic.
So it is not the material.
that is what makes me angry.
yes, I agree that women are followers. but when wearing wellies and brollies they seem to think practical.
why not then when wearing PVC macs ?
