a surprise sighting

Post by merv »

was in Norwich yesterday, quite a warm day, t-shirt and shorts and was somewhat surprised to see a middle-aged lady walking along wearing a long black shiny plastic raincoat, looked like a pvc-u-like type offering, was no danger of rain so have to wonder what her choice of clothing was all about

She had maybe heard the weather forecast wrongly , or simply enjoys wearing her black shiny raincoat out in public.............good luck to her, should encourage more people to do so.

Some people do seem to like to wear waterproofs in hot weather. I was in a car park a couple of days ago on the hottest day for months, in my shorts and cotton shirt, and saw a lady, probably in her fifties, standing by a motor scooter. She was wearing a textile suit, trousers and jacket, but the whole thing looked very baggy and ill fitting from a distance. As I walked nearer to her, she wrapped a long fleece scarf over her face, up to her eyes, with the ends down her front. She zipped her jacket up over the scarf, then I saw why the whole suit seemed baggy. She was wearing a waterproof suit over her ordinary one, and she pulled up the trousers over the bottom of her jacket, zipped up her outer jacket and put on her helmet and gloves. By now she was fully dressed for a blizzard and started up her bike and rode off. Even on the scooter she must have been absolutely roasted, but maybe she just likes the discipline of being fully mackintoshed up!

She would certainly be warm enough & also padded up enough should she come off she wouldn't be hurt - that was maybe her concern & reason for getting "garbed up" - a downside of motorcycling I found, but safety is important

I guess she likes wearing her shiny raincoat. Wish I could do that here in Texas but with the really hot weather I'd die.
