Day Off!!!

Post by agent66 »

Purposefully took Thursday off last week as I knew the storms were coming. So crazy busy all the time feel like I never get to enjoy a good storm,so I got to thoroughly enjoy several walks around a small town where I knew nobody and got a good soaking in the downpours. I wore my long olive green Helly Hansen raincoat, black sou'ester, black nylon rainpants and rubber boots. Loved walking into coffee shops glistening wet in my raingear and seeing the ladies reactions like "you look ready for the rain"!!!! and with a smile I admitted, "I love the rain, the more-the better"! took my coffee and left. I even had a woman take my picture, (I asked her to with my camera) and I will probably post it on Flickr. It was a marvellous day (about 5 hours of being soaked to the skin and feeling great) this was a day well worth taking off. Still however, nobody seems to wear proper rainwear anymore, I saw one woman in a long Wetskins brand yellow raincoat and thats it in a 5 hour span of rainfall!! At one point the rain was overflowing off an awning and I stood under it with outstretched hands not caring about a thing in the world. I would've loved to have had a picture taken then but everyone was scurrying about trying to avoid the rain!!!

Re: Day Off!!!

I have just returned from a short break in Blackpool (UK). On Thursday morning, my wife was driving me to the station to catch the train. Imagine my horror when, 10 minutes after leaving home, I realised that I had left my see-through Jeantex Toni at home ! After all, wearing it in the rain was the major reason for the trip. Too late to turn around to get it so I consoled myself that, the night before, I had packed my see-through Jeantex Frank jacket and my see-through Jeantex poncho.

Thursday afternoon and evening was windy and cloudy but no rain.

Friday morning, as soon as I stepped out of the Bed and Beakfast, it came to rain. So, I dived into my backpack and pulled out my Jeantex Toni jacket and put it on, zipped up the front, put up the hood and tightened the drawstring to stop it being blown off by the wind. For the next two hours, I walked along the promenade in Blackpool and then along the coast path until I reached Bispham. For two hours, I enjoyed the sound of the raindrops hitting the hood and the sight of the rain running down the plastic material.

Although I also had my Jeantex poncho in my backpack, I couldn't get myself to change into it as I thought that it might attract too much attention (would that have been such a bad thing ?). The jacket felt comfortable and kept me warm. However, because it only just covered my backside, the legs of my jeans did get damp. My longer Jeantex Toni would probably have kept me dry down as far as my knees.

Further rain on Saturday up until about 3 pm meant that the Jeantex jacket had to be worn while I wandered about in the rain. I even had a compliment from one young man who said that I had made a "wise choice".

With no adverse comments from anyone over the weekend, I am very happy. I even went into two different pubs and ordered my drink at the bar before taking off my plastic jacket. What a great weekend.

Hope I haven't bored you,
Jeff.
