Mackintosh prices have always been steep but it makes some British makers look good with their numbers.

Frankly, I don't know who they are trying to fool. Maybe people from Japan and elsewhere!

There is probably that element of "if it's expensive it must be good". Seems to work for Burberry, Prada etc. I remember a couple of years back, Prada selling what was basically a see-through plastic mac for nealy a £1000 pounds.

That's £10 for the see-through plastic mac and £990 for the name Prada.
