Had to take a few things out to the trash to get hauled away.
So on went my orange pvc rain pants, my black very squeaky pvc raincoat, my white nylon with rubber lining rain cape over that, and my brown rubber almost thigh length rain boots.
Pulled out a rain bonnet from the pouch of the poncho and placed it on my head back to front.
Have found if i do it that way, the back of the bonnet shields my face better from droplets of wind driven rain better then if the visor is in front.
Then pulled the two hood from the raincoat and poncho over that and tied it all in place.
Then set out to take the refuse to the bin which is about 120 yards from my building.
The winds were incredibly strong and pulled the door from my grasp as i opened it.
I could here the rain sheeting furiously against the metal awning above me.
I stepped off the porch and almost instantly my poncho flew backwards blocking my vision and my orange rain pants gleamed under the street lamp lights from the torrential rain.
I started the walk down the long narrow walkway that is bricked on both sides so the wind is forced thru like a funnel.
The poncho rippled violently in the powerful sheeting rain which was almost white it was blowing so hard.
I walked slowly as to savor every moment out in this powerful storm.
The hood on the poncho was blown back off my head and the little bit of rain bonnet that peeked out from under the tightly tied hood of my black squeaky pvc rain slicker flapped backwards away from my face leaving it exposed to the powerful wind driven squall.
What an incredible feeling this was to be out here in the strongest storm I have seen here in quite sometime and with the exception of my face stay bone dry.
Fought with the garbage bin lid as the powerful winds kept trying to force it closed.
Although trying to keep my rain cape under control with one hand didn't help matters.
Finally was able to get the things tossed that i needed to and started back towards my residence.
I gazed out towards the street and saw the rain blowing in massive sheets thru the dim street lights.
What the heck i thought i don't have to be up for work until an hour from now.
So I walked down to the street enjoying the sound of the rain wrapped wind pelting my hoods and the plastic of the rain bonnet that peeked out from under my two tight hoods whistled in protest in the strong winds of the storm.
Lightning lit up the sky and I heard shouting from behind me so i turned back towards my complex and noticed a young latino woman guessing in her late twenties early thirties.
She was dressed in a hot dark pink pvc/vinyl raincoat with a strawberry pattern on it and hot pink pvc coated tennis shoes.
She had her hands trying to hold the hood over her head as the powerful winds kept ripping it from her grasp.
Never understood why some raincoat manufacturers create raincoats without drawstrings for the hood...why even put a hood on it if you are going to do that but anyways i digress...
She was trying to hold onto a bag of groceries that was in a brown paper bag that was a soggy mess while trying to keep hold of her raincoat hood with the other with very little success.
Don't know why but seeing woman in rain gear in powerful storms has always appealed to me.
But I was finished throwing my garbage away so i headed to her aid.
I got not even a few steps into it and her boyfriend came out yelling and shouting at her.
He seemed very angry and grabbed her by the arm causing her to let go of her hood and instantly it blew backwards off her head and her hair was soaked.
He yanked her by the arm back towards the house and her raincoat popped open from the snaps.
I was tempted to call the police as this seemed almost abusive as rough as he was grabbing her and dragging her back towards the apartment.
The groceries liter the ground as they disappeared inside.
I gathered them as fast I could, placed them in a heavy duty plastic bag and wrote a note that said " from a friend " and placed it at their doorstep.
An amazing morning this am now if I can just stay awake enough to go to work.
