I forgot all about the shorty Bullitt. My wife had that one as well, although she didn't wear it as often as the full length. It's the same unlined smooth, thick PVC as the longer version, but double breasted poppers right to the neck. She wore it with thick black cotton leggings and knee high riding boots when she was dressing casually.
Alas the Bullitts suffered from tearing at the poppers and were consigned to the bin.
Subsequent raincoats she had were a full length black PVC by Mandy Marsh which I think she still has stored in our loft, Robertson’s Rainwear of Glasgow red PVC full length trench, Wallis thick black PVC 3/4 trench, Burberry traditional waterproof cotton beige trench she never really felt comfortable in, which she ditched for a New Look heavy PVC 3/4 wrap over trench about eight years ago.
The New Look coat was her last raincoat purchase as there has been a dearth of quality PVC in the High Street shops. She was never one for anoraks or similar waterproof outerwear as she loathes hoods and considers them to be lacking panache and style.
Thanks for the reply Bossali
The coat on the left was obtained from an independent shop in Union Street, Glasgow and the Bullitt from Goldbergs
Do you have any more shots of the two girls in the black raincoats? I appreciate that this was way before digital images and everything was recorded on costly negs, but as you're a photographer you probably took a few more shots at the time. Any possibility you can dig around your archives?
Can you direct me to the red Bullitt images?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Bullit
Will dig out the red bullit photos and some more of the girls in the photo. I noticed you said your wife had a Mandy Marsh raincoat i adored those, thin pvc / pu with pres stud fastings patch pockets and tie belt, i knew several women who had them and managed to photograph a few including a silver one, a balck one a bronze on. In fact the lady who owned the bronze one hada red bullit mac as well, she admitted she loved wearing shiny rainwear as it made her feel better about herself
I thought she still had the Mandy Marsh but seems it went to the charity shop some years ago. I also recall it was lightweight with chrome fasteners, tie belt and I think it had a walking vent at the rear which had a few chrome studs to adjust the opening length. The 80's and 90's were halcyon days for shiny raincoats.
Do you remember "What Every Woman Wants"? They did a really cheap one size PVC. I saw it in their window and cajoled my other half to going in to try it on. It was a smooth, thick, heavy and quite baggy. They had dozens hanging on a circular rack in the centre of the sales area. Sadly my wife didn't purchase one as it was ill fitting and looked as it was priced. To me it looked divine.
hi Bullit
Oh yes i remember What every woman wants in Argyle st and the mac you mentioned, very smooth and shiny with tie belt and big patch pockets I knew a girl who wanted to be a model and she had one of those macs, she was so sexy in it, need to dig those photos out as well, she also wore a red bullit and a mandy marsh

Oh I dont know about that HW,
No doubt someone will post that they meet two such ladies who then proceeded to have rampant sex with him in the middle of the High Street
I think it's probably our Willy, but he can't admit it, because his wife wouldn't approve.
She says, "It's disgusting! It ought not to be allowed! How shameless to wear macs in the High Street!"
