Hello Everyone, earlier in this forum I had mentioned that I was planning to get a pink mackintosh for spring. Last night it was pouring rain so I wore it out everywhere for the entire night! I have to admit I was a little hesitant at first, I know a lot of members have often expressed at little apprehension wearing out pink raincoats!!!, However with a little coaxing I took the walk on the wild side! It was a great experience , I received so many favourable compliments from people of all walks of life, they would stop and chat, smile and compliment, and so many wanted to touch it which I admit was quite a thrill. Interestingly my black slicker is sometimes perceived with some negative vibes as sort of dark and dangerous, where as the other colours are actually viewed in a very positive way. What has everyone else experienced with regards to the colour their wearing, I have to admit it was a very exhilarating experience looking forward to the next rainstorm, and as always I encourage everyone to wear their macs out would love to hear your experiences!
My New Shiny Pink Raincoat
Re: My New Shiny Pink Raincoat
Hello Wetlookslicker, It may be true that there is something in what you describe, that maybe certain colour rainwear could bring out different reactions in people.
By the way your Pink raincoat is fabulous, and you certainly deserve credit for wearing such a bright colour, outdoors in public. However, saying that I think you may live in a more Cosmopolitan area perhaps, which would seem to invite more positive comments. I think that the bigger a city you live in, the less people are likely to either notice what you wear or else give nice comments for what is essentially quite a bold fashion statement !
When I wear my Black SBR trenchcoat, then normally the only few comments I have had in the past have been Mostly Gothic student females who frequently ask where I bought it from, and then change the subject when I tell them how much I had to pay for it !
I also have a very Bright Yellow shiny PVC long raincoat, normally always with a Souwester - for the real wet weeks we have here in South Wales and that is when I have had the nicest comments, but from older, normally middle aged women whose remarks have been in the past 'That is a lovely colour, so bright for a grey day like this' to 'I remember proper rain wear like yours, and what a shame they are'nt so popular now' to a very nice encounter on a bus, where a woman in a soaked through thin nylon anorak sat next to me even though when the bus was very nearly empty.
Although we had a short conversation, every time the bus cornered, she kept moving closer to me pretending to steady herself in her seat, but making sure she pressed her hand either on my shiny yellow raincoat encased leg or the top of my arm. That was quite nice especially when she was about to get off the bus and told me that she had really enjoyed talking to me and thought I looked very cute in my bright mackintosh.
It is always nice when I am in a busy store and someone nudges past, pretending that they have not much room to get by in an excuse to touch my raincoat. Does anyone else notice this sort of inadvertant behaviour ?

Re: My New Shiny Pink Raincoat
I suspect most people would consider black quite Gothic, so shiny black would be considered dark and brooding, especially if it's essentially a long but shiny overcoat. I remember when I was 14 I used to be acquainted with some Gothic/emo types, and black plastic wouldn't have looked out of place! Pink, on the other hand is a strong fashion statement. On one hand some might think it silly, but I'd say others just respect the fact you've the confidence to go out wearing something so bright. You definitely raised their curiosity anyway!

A very spectacular turnout but...one should always wear gloves. They protect the hands, but give the final, defining touch of elegance!
