Which umbrella do you prefer?

Post by marcus_germany »

Ok, Rainwear consists of cape, boots and also an umbrella. I like the clear umbrellas very much. I Prefer the normal form. Some people prefer the dome form even more. The clear umbrellas are now even available in the foldable pocket version. The "Normal" form is mostly with 8 segments. but i also saw 6 segments, 10,12,14 ,16,18 or 20 segments. Also the clear umbrellas are available in different translucent colors: white (colorless), green, blue, red, yellow, pink, aquamarin, orange. I even saw latex umbrellas (with black canopy and red canopy), but these ones cost from 150$ to 250$, very expensive. So in this threat you can post which umbrella you prefer, discuss about them and show special types (like nubrella, latex umbrellas, and so on).
Also a special type i saw are pvc umbrellas with black (not transparent) canopy. Also high-glossy but not transparent. Also i saw umbrellas with golden canopy and silver canopy. Also looks interesting 8-). Also i another fetish forum someone presented a model with a leather canopy umbrella. Also umbrellas with silk canopy are available (with 200$ also very expensive)

I personally prefer clear pvc canopy. the higher the high-gloss the better 8-) There are magnificient differences in the gloss and the transparency. Some are really absolutely crystal clear, some others are al little "milky". The higher the clearance, the better for me :D

When searching for clear umbrellas on the web i even found one named "brelli". The canopy is a compostable bio-plastic. not as transparent and beautiful as the normal clear umbrellas, rather milky. The construcion is like the traditional asian umbrellas. With 60$ very expensive. a product for people who want everything "bio". Another curious umbrella i found on japan. round the umbrella there was a clear pvc curtain that goes nearly to the bottom. So the japanese people are not only protected from rain that falls down, even from rain the wind blows from the side.

Another curious thing: illuminated clear umrbellas: chinese online stores are selling different types. A DIY -project is the florabrella: 8 rgb led stripes are mounted on a clear dome umbrella allowing different color changing and sparkling animations with a micro controller.
PVC is sexy.

Yes, I love the shiny pvc clear dome umbrellas too. I wish they made such an umbrella that goes all the way down to the ankles.

The Brelli is an amazing umbrella. The large size model is HUGE, as big as an oversize golf umbrella. The shaft, handle, and ribs are all made of bamboo, and when the raindrops bounce of the canopy it makes a very pleasant sound like windchimes. It has two settings, which they don't tell you on the website. When you open it all the way to the "high" setting you get greater coverage area but the canopy is flat, when you use the "low" setting it takes a more traditional parablola shape, and is extremely wind resistant at this setting as well. Whenever my wife & I use it we get tons of compliments and lots of curious inquiries from total strangers. I will admit, when I bought it five years ago they had it priced significantly cheaper than it is now, so if I had discovered it at today's prices I'd probably pass on it. One word of caution: Make sure you let it dry completely before collapsing & storing it, or the plastic will stick together and the next time you try to unfurl it, it will tear, which I found out the hard way. Fortunately they provide a good warranty so their customer service was able to provide us with a replacement.

Who needs an umbrella when a rubber mac and matching sou'wester does the job admirably?

I agree, but my wife thinks sou'westers look "dorky" & hates when I wear them. Plus, sometimes you just want to be romantic & walk arm in arm with your special lady under a shared umbrella.

I prefer clear umbrellas, like Fulton. Although, I did grow up in Nova Scotia and with the wind and the rain umbrellas are useless. Therefore a full rainsuit or full length or 3/4 length raincoat is best :)

I agree with this sentiment.
But arm in arm is great but if you have camera equiptment then a coat or cape is the way too go.

Personally I hate umbrellas. Comes from always being poked in the eye with the spokes when under adults umbrellas, when I was growing. So now I just wear suitable raingear.
