Wearing SBR Mackintoshes!

Post by jon mackintosh »

I would be interested to hear from other SBR mackintosh wearers regarding their favoured brand of mackintosh and pursuits whilst so dressed.

While I, a male, does not have an SBR mackintosh, my wife does and it was made by Hamilton Classics.

It keeps her dry.

Good question "thighbootman".

The perpetrator of this subject seems to have gone very quiet.

My favourite SBR mackintosh was from Weather or Not. I wore it principally to keep me dry walking to and from my local railway station as part of my journey to the office. It did, however, lead to me making a new friend on that journey from outside my normal walk of life.

Currently I have an SBR coat and matching sou'wester from both Weather Vain and Hamilton but I also have some older coats, over trousers and hats from old Army and Navy stores, Milletts and some workwear outlets. These older items are very durable but more like a heavy backed black PVC and made from a much stiffer material - they make me much stiffer too specially when worn with rubber hip waders which rub in just the right place!!!

My wife had several, 3 or 4 I think from Weather or Not, all the same model with wide neck and wrist straps, a couple lined in rubber as well. She wore them everywhere. When Valerie and Maurice stopped trading I bought her one from WeatherVain; no where near as nice, but still rubbery. Looking back I don't think many of them ever saw rain!

Had a SBR from Weathervain many years ago, also lovely very heavy rubber cape manufactured in Paris. As far as I am concerned there is only one 'pursuit' whilst I was dressed in them. sadly don't have them anymore. However, like Thighbootman I have all kinds of gear bought from Army & Navy stores. Sadly few about now and they don't have any of the stuff we used to get.

I still have a wonderful Hussar style SBR Wigan backed from Weather Vain. It is still amazing and wonderfully smooth with an aroma to die for.
