No US Rain Wear People
Hello Wet Friends,
discussion topic: US VS UK
I have pitched this topic before but now since everyone in the whole world is at home...why do I not see US rain wear people?
I have like ten people from the UK or over seas. I love them but what happened to the blokes in the US???
Miss Rachel

American here. My guess is that they see traditional raincoats as something for kids or fishermen. Outside of those two groups, raincoats are rarely seen, even in cities such as Seattle (where it is known to rain most of the year). Another factor could be people’s view of plastic these days. Will they ever come back in style to the United States? Not quite. Even here in Spain, many people wear non plastic materials (Think Adidas, North Face), but you will occasionally find that pvc or vinyl.

American men's raincoats are made by Ford and General Motors

I was borne in the UK and my wife wasn't but in the USA.
She wears mackintoshes made by a couple of British companies and she loves them. She does not share my fetish but loves the satin and rubber linings. She says the rubber makes them special and she loves the warmth.

I believe I am down the road from you in Austin, TX. Too bad the weather isn't like Seattle. I have over 150 raincoats to play with along with various pvc pants, shorts, hoods, gloves, and sleep sacks.

As an aside I am going to put on a happy face and go pick up (no dining rooms are open) some sushi later today. I rained a little her in Dallas but more seems to be on the way.

I think this is likely. I don't think I knew many people who had a thing for rainwear in the States unfortunately; though of course there are fetishists there, they either aren't as visible with it, or it's just less common in the populace for whatever reason.Rain89 wrote: ↑April 10th, 2020, 5:15 am American here. Well I'm one who is a fetishist but, as far as I know, there is a disparity in terms of companies who sell their product. I believe there is one but it may be the US owned variant of a British outfit.
The one good thing is that buying British means we do not pay VAT so that is a large saving for us.
But remember the word is:-
WEATHERPROOF AND WINDPROOF.

I have said it earlier but it is worth saying again. When I had a store I bought only products from the UK or Germany to stock it with. I never bought cehap toss away stuff.
Quality never goes out of style.
