We have a chat room on another forum (not rainwear related),
We either have a ore arranged monthly chat at a set time and date or between these folks pop up a message on a thread to let others know when they might be planning on popping in, works quite well x

Or as a thought those on Facebook make a group and then use messenger?
Make it private then people can say what they wish.
