Re: Raincoat, Mackintosh or what
I was born in the sixties, and the mack's of choice in those days were plastic and nylon. Mary Quant came out with the PVC, but for me they were merely fashion. My particular preference is for the crisp and swishy nylon, because something must have happened to me in early childhood for this to have such a powerful effect on me. I do also have a couple in rubber, but nylon mackintoshes are my favorite.

Were there. There is a person, up North, not sure if she's on here, but she is a great historian on matters of plastic/nylon rainwear. She seems to know everything on the subject.

Wonderful. As are your own video's, many of which I have enjoyed over the years. Shame we don't live any closer.

Thank you for your kind comment.
Plastic coats do seem to have been around for some time!
Nylon from the 40's!

Said in exactly the right tone by someone who "understands", the word "mackintosh" can reach parts that other words cannot reach.

Re: Raincoat, Mackintosh or what
My wife always seemed to refer to them as her rubber raincoats or rubber trench coats.

'Totally agree with you. And as you say, to hear it, certainly does "get the pulse racing"
