I took the bus to work this morning, and as it was raining heavily I put on my navy Dunlop wellies with navy, noisy rainpants over them and my yellow pvc mack with hood up.
Stood at the bus stop for ten minutes as bus was late, lots of other people in queue, got a few nice glances from girls who were standing and then on the bus.
Loved it.
Took off my wellies in the office, open plan, and hung my rainpants and mack on hangers near radiator, two of the girls complimented me on my choice of raingear.
Some other girls also wore raingear including girly wellies. Lovely!!!
What did you decide to wear in today's rain?
Re: What did you decide to wear in today's rain?
I don't know if anyone is familiar with an annual event which takes place in Saddleworth, Greater Manchester (UK) every year known as Whit Friday ? I have been going there each year for the past 25 years. It is an outdoor event which takes place in May or June whatever the weather.
I attended this event this weekend and despite the forcast for heavy rain all day on Friday, it did not rain until about 7 o'clock on the Friday evening. As soon as the first drops of rain fell, I took my see-through plastic jacket out of my back-pack and put it on, pulled up the front zip and put up the hood. I spent a few hours enjoying the feel of the plastic, especially the hood against my face. Although I was with my wife and two close friends, no-one made any comment on my jacket. One gentleman at the entrance to the event touched my jacket and commented favourably on my choice of rainwear.
Although there were many people around, I did not see anyone else wearing see-through plastic but I was aware that I was getting lots of attention and one man and his wife(?) seemed to hovering close by as I would have done in similar circumstances. I can't be sure but one man seemed to be pointing his camera in my direction; maybe I'll end up on Flickr ?
As others have said on this forum, wear you rainwear and enjoy it. It does take a bit of courage to put it on first of all but after a while it seems the sensible thing to do if you want to keep dry. I also find that it helps to smile a lot when wearing rainwear.
I now look forward to my next outing in my see-through rainwear.
Regards,
Jeff.

Re: What did you decide to wear in today's rain?
It has been lovely weather recently with several hours of continuous heavy rainfall and it has been wonderful to get out and about in my mackintoshes and wellies. I wore my rubberlined hooded red satin mac to work yesterday morning and received several compliments from my fellow travellers. I just love the attention.......it makes my day and I wish more people would dress appropriately when it rains............................Wouldn't be wonderful if we could return to those halcyon days of the 1950s when such mackintoshes were readily available in the high street stores at reasonable prices................I would have loved to have been around then.
Re: What did you decide to wear in today's rain?
It was also very wet and cold in Melbourne today ... I wore my shiny green Rukka raincoat which I also paired with my equally shiny yellow Wellington rain boots; it's my favourite rainy day ensemble! My Rukka is long enough to just cover the top of my boots so my pants stay dry no matter how hard it rains. Now I know why Rukka raincoats are so popular: they are amazingly waterproof and the fact that they also look (and feel) simply great is a big bonus.
I hardly receive any "funny" looks either ... I've even worn it to the local supermarket without any problems.
Last week, I met one woman in an op-shop who wanted to know where I'd found my Rukka and she was asking so many questions about it, where did you find it? bla bla... She absolutely loved it and even wanted to buy one herself.

Hi Mason ,
From the other side of The Earth I read your mail. You had the weather I miss here in the Netherlands ,only short showers in the early morning or not in the region where you live.
I wear a long PVC dark blue cape (PUL , England is not so far away ) and boots, My experience is ,that the coat or cape must be rather long ,otherwise your trousers get wet.
Sometimes the cape/coat is sticking to the boots, this does not happen when I wear rain/over trousers ,but that 's sometimes to warm.
For the holidays I have ordered a semi transparent cape ,because my wife does not like dark capes, they are so colossal.
Enjoy the rain ! ,
Peter

Re: What did you decide to wear in today's rain?
Oh woe is me, I was promised severe thunderstorms which came overnight while I was sleeping & ended before I woke up...but I was then promised more around noon, which was then pushed back to 3 PM but was supposed to last all night. Instead they came at 3 (while I was working) and now an hour later they've pretty much moved out of the area and I see nothing else on the radar...forecast says 90% chance of more rain by 8 PM, but I'm not exactly getting my hopes up.
Re: What did you decide to wear in today's rain?
Monday early evening the clouds opened here. I set off to one of my favourite walks dressed in two layers. Both were nylon Regatta raintrousers and Regatta cagoules. The first layer was olive green the second navy blue. Walking boots as well. Nothing else except socks. The constant rain meant that I wore both cagoule hoods up for the duration of the walk... Very nice feelings indeed.
Re: What did you decide to wear in today's rain?
I went for a walk in the rain yesterday. Instead of wearing my usual thick rubber trenchcoat from Weathervain, I wore my nylon rain jacket with patent black pvc trousers (extremely shiny) from Honour, which I tucked into my argyl wellies. Got a few looks but no comments, felt great though!
