On holiday and a day out in the historic city of Salisbury yesterday. Loved the Cathedral and nice place to shop. But the very best bit was loads of sightings….
Passed a girl several times wearing shiny black leatherette leggings.
Two girls (probably in their 20’s) wearing matching black rubbery long masks. I must have stared as they went by because one gave me a smile and a look that suggested “catch a load of this you kinky old sod” as she clasped her mac closed and giggled to her friend.
A lady in a very shiny blue PVC short mac.
But my favourite was a middle aged woman, in an old green parka, carrying a couple of heavy shopping bags, trudging along but wearing very shiny black PVC joggers (leggings that are elasticated waist and ankle). I would loved to have known what went through her mind when she dressed that way in the morning!
If Salisbury is like this all the time I want to move there!

Used to live round that district until about 14 years ago but I never saw that much shiny rainwear around after the 1980's. Perhaps this is the start of a revival? It is certainly unusual to see women in their 20's wearing shiny macs, to see two at once is rare as hen's teeth. Was it a rainy day when you went there? Might take a day trip back there the next time I have day off and it is raining.

It was overcast with some drizzle, but certainly not full on rain. Those macs were the modern matte rubbery PVC, feels lovely but not shiny at all (from experience feeling them in a shop - not on these girls of course!). I wondered if the girls were sisters as they did look very similar, or maybe just friends that liked being protected from the elements. I agree that it is very rare to have any sightings at all, but even rarer when a woman seems to know the effect that her rainwear has on some men!Rainworshipper wrote: ↑October 1st, 2021, 5:21 am Used to live round that district until about 14 years ago but I never saw that much shiny rainwear around after the 1980's. For me the ultimate sexiness outside the bedroom is a woman in casual plastic! That is when their choice of garment seems very matter of fact and not part of a fashion look. So the girl in PVC leggings was less sexy because they went very well with her overall goth look. But the lady in the shiny PVC joggers was simply devine as they were so out of place with her overall look. I guess it is because in my twisted mind she picked the black PVC item because she wanted to wear them for herself, rather than other people as a fashion statement.

What did the rest of the outfit of the lady in the joggers look like ? I ask because the trend in recent years was to combine vinyl trousers with simple and comfy garments if they are worn as everyday outfit and not for a party.
Good examples are these:

Re: Let’s all move to Salisbury
Have seen at work today several newer rubbery macs, a nice vintage long red rukka, a couple of kway cagoules (one green, one royal blue) a green Peter storm old school cagoule over a changing room door (have seen the guy wearing this a few times) and a yellow fisherman style rubbery looking slicker.
Tomorrow is forcast heavy rain! …. Can’t wait!

The second link was very similar to what she was wearing, although the trousers were a looser fit and her jacket was a larger size. I doubt any of those tight PVC leggings are comfy, so I think the whole look is still very much a fashion statement. Although never having had the good fortune to own a pair, I might be wrong. I am guessing they are fabric lined, or a stretch fabric coated with PVC, and I have only experienced the deliciously uncomfortable and super feeling of unlined plastic trousers!ilikecoated wrote: ↑October 1st, 2021, 10:59 am What did the rest of the outfit of the lady in the joggers look like ? A couple of women at work occasionally wear PVC macs. One yellow Rukka style, and the other that modern matte rubbery black.annabell-cagoule wrote: ↑October 1st, 2021, 8:14 pm Have seen at work today several newer rubbery macs, a nice vintage long red rukka, a couple of kway cagoules (one green, one royal blue) a green Peter storm old school cagoule over a changing room door (have seen the guy wearing this a few times) and a yellow fisherman style rubbery looking slicker.

Well, almost. The coating is usually made from polyurethane and in only very few cases PVC. The material is usually the same as used for dresses, catsuits, tops and bodysuits etc. In very seldom cases the fabric backing is cotton. I have some jeans, that are like that. Those are not very stretchy.I am guessing they are fabric lined, or a stretch fabric coated with PVC, and I have only experienced the deliciously uncomfortable and super feeling of unlined plastic trousers!
I find most of these items quite comfy to wear if they are not worn too tight.
If the weather is really hot and sweaty I offen wear a pair of vinyl trousers under my jeans, even at work. I use to drench the fabric inside with baby oil or massage oil before putting them on. This gives a darn nice feeling and damps the rustling and squeaking a little. After about ten full days of wearing they are usually ripe for destruction. They start to smell rancid and the shine is gone due to the sweat and oil leaking through the plastic coating. I once managed to increase the weight of a pair by 200 grams this way !
I do really hope to see some ladies wearing these items again this winter.
