I should try a bar of soap to start with, it should clean fairly easily since it is a smooth surface. I am one of the members on here who likes getting muddy, and I have always found it easy to get clean afterwards. Detergent is probably ok, but I would beware of using any cleaning agent stronger than that. What is the coat lined with?

With PVC these ideas are probably fine. Do not try washing a rubber-lined garment because that would be fatal. Just try to to clean any marks very gently. It's the bodage we have for buying rubber garments.

For rubber-lined rainwear, just use a very clean rag with a water-based solvent and very, very mild detergent.

I also like to get my rainwear muddy, and I usually wash it with Nikwax Tech Wash. Two exceptions are my guy cotten smock, which is pure pvc on both sides so it can just be rinsed off, and my stutterheim for which I use a sponge and normal soap.

I get my rubber lined cotton mackintosh comfortably clean by wearing it under a just barely warm shower and gently rubbing the dirt / mud off with a clean sponge . (sometimes I then have to rinse off the inside "
