Re: Tell me your stories of raincoats that went to the trash
I am also a AGU raincoat fan. For those who don''t know. AGU is a Dutch brand raincoat. The models of the 80ties are favoured because they are made from Nylon with Rubberrized coating on the inside. My mother had a bronze one. And I am sure she only bought it because she found out I liked her sisters (My aunts) marine blue AGU raincoat. From memory I can only think of 5 times she actually used it. For 10 years it was stored hanging in the Fuse box room. I sometimes toughed and put it on when home alone (very rare with 4 siblings). When we went moving after 15 years I was very keen on preserving it. So I moved the raincoat in a plastic bag to my room and made it part of my moving boxes. Unfortunately my mother must have found it, and decided to trash it. Because it never made it to the new house.

I hate when parents find our raincoats and throw them in the trash.

Re: Tell me your stories of raincoats that went to the trash
Hello, I have a few stories to tell about raincoats that go in the trash, I myself had a lot of raincoats that were thrown out from when I was a child, my sister’s raincoats did not fare much better.
The first one I remember being thrown is this: https://postimg.cc/gallery/GLL3bQg
I managed to get it back one night when it was put in the trash, unfortunately I had to put it back where I had found it the same morning, so that my parents did not have a doubt:(
I bought the exact same one I bought when I was a kid in 12 years and the effect it has on me has never changed.
My sister also had a pink vinyl raincoat Dora the explorer, I fantasized a lot about it, already when I bought it I made a fit for my mother to have the same, unfortunately it was only available in 6 years when I had to have 7/8, my mother bought it from my little sister, I tried to wear it but it was really too small… One day my sister came back from school with my mom, my mom seemed to be angry, and I understood why when she started arguing with my sister, she had damaged her imper Dora playing in the playground, nothing too bad, a few traces of grass that didn’t want to leave and a few small holes, mom decided he was no longer portable for every day and put it aside only to go to the garden, I was relieved to know that he wasn’t going to the trash while knowing that he was still close to "death".
It was at this very moment that I began by every possible means to retrieve it and bring it back to my room, I wanted to keep it to myself since no one wanted it anymore. In the meantime my sister had to wear it 2/3 times maximum and still damaged it a little more, normal would tell me you, it was intended for that..
One fine day we went to the garden, my sister wanted to take her coat except he was no longer there, we were told that he had left last week during the cleaning, That’s when I found it at the bottom of the trash outside under a pile of garbage and I never managed to get it back

I have had the opposite
When I was younger I was homeless being a girl and made homeless in the summer me and my then girlfriend was able to get by when it rained but when summer started to end and it got darker sooner and colder that was a different story we would be looking on bins to find things to get us through we would always be looking out for anything pvc or plastic if we did find a Mac raincoat that someone had throwing out we would take it no matter what condition we had found macs that where actually filling apart but we would us them to put under us so we was not laying on the actual ground we did find some that where really thick plastic they where kids ones but we used them as covers this really did happen to us and I to this day and so thankful to the people who had put them in the trash x

Re: Tell me your stories of raincoats that went to the trash
Well for me i was 14yrs old come home from school to find that my mother had finally cracked it and couldn't bare it anymore her 14yr old son liked wearing girls plastic raincoats and pants and boots mainly pink Barbie stuff and girly looking patterns and colours and girls boots I had some boys things but mainly girls things .
My mother would only buy them so i didn't put on a performance in the shop so nobody would see and make her imbarresed about her son wanting a girls pink Barbie raincoat and people seeing.
But one day I pushed the limits just a little to far flaunting it dressing up wearing it around the house and yard then a argument started and i took it too far saying things i
shouldn't have not nice things and putting on a performance and tantrum when my mother threatened to take all my stuff away and not get it back .
So I told her if she did that I'd burn her nice expensive boots and the 3 nice good quality pure plastic raincoats she had in her cupboard and this absolutely gourges shiny red Mac she had that was expensive .
Big big mistake saying that this was the nail in the coffin for my beloved rainwear and boots and my two pink pairs Barbie rollerblades .
As the next day when I arrived home from school as normal I'd race up to my room and dress up in coat pants and boots and wear it around the house and yard but not on this occasion as i opened my bedroom door my heart instantly dropped as I seen all my plastics coats and pants all over my bed and floor ripped and cut into lots of pieces i instantly started to ball my eyes out went running down stairs to look for my mum for answers why to only find her waiting outside in our property up in the back part of our big yard standing next to our fire pit where she would burn all our garden leaf litter and branches and so on .
She was standing there next to a pile of sticks and wood she had heaped up with lots of newspaper under it all with my boots all been cut slashed with a knife and put in the heap in a way so they could be seen and my two pairs rollerblades in on top of the pile with my favourite pink purple and sky blue Barbie set rollerblades which i loved using .
I was balling my eyes out in histerics begging and screaming please don't do it mummy please don't I'm sorry i was saying begging and all i remember her saying is sorry isn't good enough your going to learn a lesson and you are going to stand here and watch it all burn weather you like it or not this is what happens when you threaten to destroy my things my boy you want to burn my things she said to me ok let's have us a fire then son opened up a 1.5 ltr bottle kerosene poured and splashed it all over pile twisted up a piece of newspaper lit it walked over and said too me take one last look as this is its final seconds with a big angry happy releaved smile cheeky smile on her face and Yep that was it she actually lit the pile up and made me stand there and watch balling my eyes out till it was all turned to ash nothing left I still remember the stench the smell like it was yesterday and that black smoke soot so yeah that's my real life true story .
But hey it didn't put me off later in life as I still collect till this day and it's a mixed collection of boots coats pants Mac's i always told her no fire or fear of you destroying my things is going to stop me from collecting ever now she just excepts it for what it is as she knows it's a lost cause and I'm going to just buy collect and wear it all anyway weather she likes it or not to the point now that she buys me rainwear or nice expensive designer rainboots as gifts for birthdays or Christmas gifts even if its not too her liking watching her 30yr old son parade around the house in women's boots and plastic rainwear and still plants the seed saying only if you knew how much id love to see that crap burn but i know how much you love it all and love wearing it all even if i don't approve or like it with a cheeky little grin on her face you can literally see it in her face that she would put a match to it all in a heartbeat no questions asked first chance she could and had weather i liked it or not that's why my collection is all under lock and key now for years 🤷😂😂

Never in a million years would I have had the confidence to wear plastic rainwear around the house Mrwhitefish. So at least you got to indulge in your desires, even if they didn’t end well the first time around. I once has a girlfriend who knew about my liking for plastic and tried to indulge me, but one day she left me and all my rainwear disappeared at the same time. I suspect she had some kind of ceremonial destruction planned - I will never know. Some of the stuff were items she bought, it a couple were mine and that was very annoying when I never saw them again.

If my raincoat was damaged, they threw it in the garbage. But as long as the raincoat was in good condition it stayed . I wish they keept my raincoats even if they were a bit damaged. I still loved them and used them . But a few of my raincoats got damaged and thrown in garbage.
