I was planning on going out for a walk early today, but the rain went through far too early and the risk of damage to the house put me off. There are a few more rainy days in the forecast, I will be out for a rainy muddy walk soon no doubt.

Well yesterday was a good day for a drenching, i know it wasn't a storm but with strong winds and rain i definitely got very wet. Went for a walk around Hamble and up the river yesterday just to get wet in the rain when it started about 11.30, this went on for a couple of hours and in that time I got totally drenched, there was a few people out but not many enjoying the rain as i was. Looking like the chance of rain again today so time for another walk i think.

Set out to prove a point this week. Earlier this winter I discovered that water can get down your neck even though you are wearing a sou'wester and shiny rubber mack if you get hit from behind by spray from a wave. This latest time I wore a hooded rubber mack over my Aquo boots and headed for the front at Aberystwyth. I hung on to the railing with my back to the sea. The spray burst all over me but not a drop got down the back of my neck.

However, although a hooded mack seems better when the water is behind you, I can't help feeling that a sou'wester with the right gear looks much more sexy.

Certainly was not a day for sou'westers in my humble opinion. Wore my RAB Resolution jacket with the hood tightly fastened against the stinging rain! Felt something really special, Warm against that wind, and dry against that rain.

Interesting debate. I, personally would wear hoods every time. They wrap your head in warmth and keep the drafts out. If lined in pvc, rubber, vinyl or fur they can be extraordinarily sexy too. I find sou'westers rather ugly, clumsy and not great in anything above a puff of wind. Let my slaughter begin!!!!

I never got out in the storms but nearly everyday apart from Friday last week I was out for a walk in waterproof trousers, pvc raincoat fully done up, hood up tied tightly. Absolutely loved it.
