For me, it is somewhat simplistic. Before I could even have any PVC/plastic raincoats, I was introduced to the world of plastic. Simply put, the clear dry cleaning bags. And why? One day I was over at a neighbors, and in his shop was a Playboy calendar, and the girl that month was wearing a very simple plastic see through raincoat. At 14 I was started by what happened to me. Next month, I was over and he had torn off that page and through it in in his trash box. Well, I grabbed it without him seeing, and I had that picture for years. It wasn't until I was 18, that my mom had thrown out my two sisters jelly jackets. i latched on to those. Transparent green and yellow. They were too small for me, so I would wear one of each arm/sleeve. Not until I was 21 did I start my raincoat collection, by finding plastic raincoats at the thrift stores.
But yet, just regular plastic has always been good for me, and my wife absolutely loves it. When the raincoats get to be too old, we cut out what we can and use those pieces in our "pleasurement" mode.
You can still buy the clear dry cleaning bags from Amazon and Ebay, and we have a roll of those that we used from time to time. One problem with those is that they are usually a one shot deal. After one session, they are rather wrinkled and don't feel good anymore.
If anyone is interested, you can buy the sheets of plastic from PVC-U-Like and Funplastic.de

One more option is a company called Wazoodle. They have polyurethane sheets are feel just amazing.
https://wazoodle.com/products/polyureth ... 8481308806 This link is 1 mil, which is too small.
I've ordered the 3 and 4 mil polyurethane, which is just right. My guess is that they are out of stock right now. Wait a month or two and check back in. Last I ordered, my wife and I ordered out some 40 feet worth!
The pvc-u-like has great material in the NAT1 and NAT4 choices. Have fun and order 2 or 4 meters of these sheets. My wife likes the pieces to be about 2 by 3 feet, or 60 by 90 cm.
Rainwear combined with other fetishes

Dave62 - I don’t understand the connection between the dry cleaning bags and the Playboy girl and then raincoats later on. Do you mean t(at you saw the Playboy girl and were turned in by her plastic raincoat (and I certainly would have been) then found dry cleaning bags that resembled the plastic of her raincoat? I am guessing the girl was wearing a disposable emergency raincoat if it resembled dry cleaning bag material.
Is this it?

I think I know what you mean about the film used for dry cleaning bags. When you pick up a garment and the bag is new it has a nice feel to it, but it doesn’t take much handling for that to disappear.
I recall a few Playboy magazines where the girls wore plastic raincoats or jackets. My favourite was a yellow jelly jacket. I guess the idea was that the girl could be both dressed and on show at the same time! Lovely idea.

Jellyman, my apologies, I didn't make it clear. The picture that change my "view" is the 1969 Playboy Calendar, the April page. A small picture of her is here in the upper left https://picclick.com/1969-Playboy-Playm ... 84222.html
The raincoat is like those cheap ones today, except much narrower. I swear the ones you buy today could hold 2 people!
So she started it. And at the time, the only source I had at that age was the dry cleaner bags. I've made up for that as my wife is more than encouraging of our desire for raincoats and plastic. She really wants no part of bedroom time without a raincoat or two. The day my mom threw out my sisters jelly jackets was the next step up. Really is nice to have a women who not only tolerates, but thoroughly enjoys the feel of the plastic. When I first started the raincoats with her, she was accommodating. But I noticed after two years, she would have the raincoat on before I did! We spend a lot of money with PUL and FunPlastic.

Dave62, you are a very lucky man to have such an accepting wife. Many member’s partners don’t accept their desires, and my own wife is grudgingly accepting, but certainly would never take the lead in wearing a raincoat before sex.

I love wearing leather pants, along with a rain jacket. Nylon rain jacket or the yellow friz is just wonderful. And sometimes I jump in the water with it all on .... umm
