I've often wondered about cagoules at these vintage kilo fairs but that's all it is at the moment, curiosity. Not made it to one yet.annabell-cagoule wrote: ↑July 15th, 2022, 10:25 pm I love popping into charity shops on rainwear hunts, my best find was a like new Red Peter Storm full zip, coupled with a red white and blue version, £5 each!! Bonus as my size too,
Has to be my best finds.
Found an xxl blue full zip PS cagoule a few weeks back for £6 but it was far to big and was a bit dirty and faded so left it on the rack.
Definitely not as many as used to be, i wonder if one of those vintage kilo fairs has cagoules? Anyone been to one?

Re: Second hand rainwear
All my rainwear is second-hand. I used to look at thrift stores but nowadays I am looking more at second-hand sites like Vinted. I like to look at the photos and sometimes you can even own the item for a bargain
Recently I also bought a nice short PVC mac in good condition for little money. The only drawback is that the mac smells a bit like cigarette smoke, if anyone has a tip on how to remove the smell, I would be pleased to hear.

Cigarette smell can be really difficult to get out of PVC. Years ago I bought a green jelly jacket in a charity shop, knowing it smelt a bit Smokey, but when I got it home it seemed much stronger. I tried everything but nothing would remove the smell, and it was so strong it made me not want to wear it, and that is saying a lot as plastic jelly jackets are my favourite rainwear.

Translation of the announcement:

Re: Second hand rainwear
Does anyone in the UK ever find any of those long semi transparent hooded and belted pvc rainmacs that were so common here in the 1990s ? I mean of course the type worn by mature ladies.
Re: Second hand rainwear
They were very popular during the late 1970's and early 1980's. I think they had disappeared by the 1990's but I stand to be corrected. No-one apart from PVC-U-Like seem to sell them any more. However, I have a couple of holdalls full of them.northernbloke wrote: ↑January 20th, 2023, 1:04 am Does anyone in the UK ever find any of those long semi transparent hooded and belted pvc rainmacs that were so common here in the 1990s ? Although the early versions were commonly worn as you say, in the 1970s Taff, I am sure they made a revival in a more fashionable and shaped form, in the 1990s. I remember spending my lunch hours from work, watching the girls and women in their pvc shiny macs, walking around the town centre. Mind you some of them by then were possibly not see through ones.Taffmac wrote: ↑January 21st, 2023, 1:05 pmThey were very popular during the late 1970's and early 1980's. Interesting that you own a collection of them. One of the things that I find a huge turn on with those macs is the gorgeous SMELL that comes from them, particularly if the mac is warmed up with a hairdryer or inflated up like a balloon with the hose of a vacuum cleaner on "blow" setting ! Mmmm. I love humping an inflated pvc mac. So tell me about your collection ? Did you ever obtain any secondhand ones directly from their previous lady owner ? So you could take one home and in your minds eye imagine the woman wearing it ? Does your wife wear a mac for you ? Tell me more !
Cheers
Derek
