I have always been a fan of Patricia Hodge - she exudes class and sophistication. I remember her in Rumpole of the Bailey. I have seen her on the stage several times and was lucky enough to speak to her briefly after a Q and A and managed to get her autograph. My take on this is that a PVC mac would not have been viewed as the kind of garment that her character would have worn. I cannot see her wearing one in real life either sadly. I think of the number of clips we have been treated to by RB which feature prostitutes in pvc macs. They are my favourite of all macs but I somehow feel they would not suit the image she cultivates; she would have worn a Burberry pvc mac but I assume they did not exist back then.

Been in love with her for years and I must admit I was really surprised too - not complaining though!

You might want to check out the 80’s series Mackenzie as I’m fairly certain Sheila Ruskin wore a shiny gold cape thing and I’m certain someone else (maybe Tracy Ullman) wore a plastic mac
For some reason I associate The Who’s song Substitute with this series
Cheers for that R-E - much appreciated! I remember looking for links to the series some 5 or 6 months ago and finding absolutely zilch on the Internet (You Tube and Daily Motion) so I'm not too optimistic. Will give it a go though.....
While you're at it have a look for 'Two Up, Two Down' with Paul Nicholas (not 'Three Up, Two Down' which was a totally different series) in one of the episodes they go camping and one of the girls wears a blue cagoule
I also thought there's an episode of Alan Bennett's original 'Talking Heads' series which featured Maureen Lipman
Good luck
OK, cheers for that R-E - will see what I can find....
