Long, dog walking raincoats for serious mud/rain!

Post by LongCoats »

Hello, I am new here and I love long raincoats! The raincoats should go down to below my knees, all the way to lower calf, to keep me dry with tall wellies that I wear for serious mud on my rainy dog walks. This way, the rain just runs down the coat and onto my wellies!

I currently have a long raincoat from llbean, that goes to below my knees, but it's old, needs replacing, and the style isn't made anymore by the company. Here are the long raincoat options I am debating between purchasing, let me know about these options which best suits my needs. I am female but very tall, 6'1". So I need seriously LONG raincoats to walk my dogs in and stay dry (no rain pants) with tall rain boots!

- Stutterheim mosebacke long https://stutterheim.com/en-us/women/jac ... long-black
- Farmerrain retro raincoat https://farmerrain.com/en/product/retro ... orlek=m-en
- Holland Cooper long training coat https://www.hollandcooper.com/products/ ... coat-black
- Alan Paine long waterproof coat https://hollandscountryclothing.co.uk/p ... eq=uniform
- Baleno Kensington long waterproof raincoat https://hollandscountryclothing.co.uk/p ... 6439961635
- Lighthouse outback full length raincoat https://hollandscountryclothing.co.uk/p ... 9774086179
- Outback Trading packaroo duster https://www.outbacktrading.com/collecti ... 5533973557

Which option should I go with?

Hi and welcome - loving long raincoats sounds nice, as so do I (I'm male and also tall). I love vintage and vintage-style/retro coats like the Stutterheims (esp the shiny "opal" versions" and the long ones of course) and the Farmerrain Retro. This one can be made as close to old belted Rukkas as no other coat if you are able and/or willing to modify the belt. You need a buckle (I didn't find any looking exactly like the Rukka ones) and replace the cord stops with plastic cord ends like the old raincoats have. Optionally you can attach a belt loop made with a rest from the belt after shorteing it. Example:

Farmerrain had a size chart for the retro coat, but it seems it has disappeared? :( Luckily I saved it, here we go:

Image
1) is half chest, 4) is sleeve length and 5) total length

Stutterheim has size charts for their coats on their website, so you can check length and other measurements.
Their longest coat was the Nolby (imho identical cut to the former Marni collab long coat) but it is sold out now. The Nolby is 143 cm long for all sizes (which is strange....).

Your other options are too modern/too much "Gore-Tex" style looking so I can't recommend them 8-)
timeless fashion is the best fashion - classic "rubberized" raincoats are timeless

It should be no problem to find a long raincoat.
For me it's the look and feel of the raincoat, I prefer long coats too, but
haven't got a dog, so what can I say ?

I love both Stutterheim & Farmerrain, but if I had to pick one I’d go with the Farmerrain retro. Just a better value overall, and the shiny ones look amazing

Nothing like wearing a long rubber raincoat, either hooded or with a sou'wester. It makes me feel very safe
