Let's get PVC into the mainstream

Post by pvculike »

After all the fuss on the other channel I thought it was about time we showed you guys what we are trying to do with our sister company Elements Rainwear. Elements rainwear is about trying to show how fashionable PVC can be for outerwear. The great British Public with their stiff upper lips have always viewed PVC as slightly seedy, maybe associated with ladies of the night and dodgy fellas wearing "flasher" mac's but the younger generation are not so tainted and love the look and tactile nature of PVC. We see plenty of it with Pop star's and sometimes on productions like Dancing on Ice and Strictly come dancing and that's what Elements Rainwear is trying to tap into. Ok, when we look at a pretty girl in a PVC mac we have only one thing on our mind but hopefully Elements Rainwear is serving a purpose of getting PVC back into the mainstream so that this wonderful material is more accepted and here to stay!

Here's a few example pics from ur latest shoot

I fully agree with you and wish you most of luck for your Endeavour. I have a fetish since decades for only raincoats, made of shiny pvc, vinyl, noisy crackly, etc. and have purchased many pvc coats from PUL in the past. But I must admit, that pvc / vinyl rainwear is not very practical, as it has also some disadvantages, like the rain is running down the slick material and your trousers get wet, when you wear a rain jacket. The vinyl material is getting stiff over the time, and although your manufacturing is superb, most of my vinyl raincoats have defects and are torn after a while, where the seams are welded, because the vinyl is either too heavy (400m like BLS4) or too thin (150m like BKS11). I wear my vinyl raincoats just outside for a walk with the dog, no other activities with them. I discovered that the glass clear fabric of the years 2008 to 2014 was the most durable material, as the vinyl was „right“ in 200m and it felt rubbery a little bit. I wish we could have back that type of fabric….or do you have a glass clear vinyl fabric that is around 200m and has a slight rubber feeling ?

Thanks. They are fabulous pictures. I can think of a little something that might get stiff before the vinyl does.

i really like purchasing from PUL because of how soft the material is. my favorite is the thick material such as the bls4 or bks4.

That's good to know. Macs like these can be an invaluable aid in situations where one finds one's craft ebbing.

Wonderful pics and macs, which i wouldnt expect anything less from PUL.
Its why we have nearly 100 PUL PVC macs in our collection and are worn daily inside or out the house.

Well done

i wish PVC rainwear became mainstream again. PU looks nice and shiny but it is not the same and the other materials are nothing what i expected rainwear to be like especially in the early-mid 90's. i was little back then but i still have fond memories.
