I felt sure I saw a post about this on here a long time ago, but search turns up nothing.
In the dark days before the Internet, one of my rare pleasures was looking through the back pages of Exchange & Mart (a sort of printed newspaper format eBay). My parents bought it once every few months when looking for something they wanted to buy. The back pages had some mildly dodgy ads. Being a newspaper, any images were small and grainy, but I remember being excited at graphics of women in shiny latex outfits (not that you could tell what they were made of except for the description). Two things that stood out for me among all the other ads… a shop in London called The Plastic Sandwich which said it sold rainwear made of PVC on both sides of a cotton lining. I was too young to be able to order anything, but the idea intrigued me. I assumed I was the only person in the world attracted to PVC, so why would someone go to the trouble of putting the material on the INSIDE of a garment as well as the normal weather protection outside? Years later, when old enough to investigate in person, I looked but failed to find any trace of this most intriguing shop.
The other advert was for WeatherVain and I sent away for their catalogue and bought from them on the promise of PVC hidden well below their copious mentioning of latex. These days they don’t do PVC anymore, but back then…. Ohhhhhh! They even did a few items in plastic, but I dare not buy my then girlfriend anything like that.
I do recall feeling exasperated during the age when I was old enough to know about sex, but still no Internet, and feeling that 99.99% of people associated latex as the only kinky material judging by the adverts in Exchange & Mart. There were also adverts for ladies happy to dominate (for a fee) which I found intriguing, but all did it while dressed in rubber.
