I have enjoyed a couple of fully geared walks of late. Despite the mainly relatively mild and dry weather here (boo..!), we have had a few suitable days and 3 January was one such day. I was up very early, grabbed a glass of juice and a banana and then moved through into the garage. I removed everything but socks and then dressed in 2 pairs of raintrousers and two cagoules (all Regatta). Boots were added along with a rucksack and I was ready. Into the car and I drove the few miles to the start of my walk. It was only just getting light when I started out from the car park. There was just one other car parked there, probably a dog walker. The air was cold and damp and it felt as if the rain would start soon. Already I was very excited. I needed this! After about 10 minutes walking the rain started. I pulled up the hood of the top layer cagoule and delighted in the sounds and sensations of the rain against it. Bliss..! The next hour or so was magical. I saw several dog walkers, a few joggers and two people out biking. Pleasantries were exchanged with most and they had no idea at all what I was up to. Just someone out for a healthy hike dressed properly for the conditions...!
