Missed opportunities
Re: Missed opportunities
My missed opportunity was not realizing that eBay is a great place to buy rainwear. 2015 is when I started to use it so every great raincoat or rainsuit listed prior was a missed opportunity in my book. I've perused local army surplus stores, gardening stores, and used clothing stores for rainwear to no avail where I live in the USA. I envy both the selection and availability of rainwear that our European members have in Europe! Had I grown up in a Scandinavian country I have no doubt that my closet would be overflowing with rainwear.

Re: Missed opportunities
America does seem to have missed the 1970’s cagoule and nylon rainwear boom. I guess it’s a more British or european thing. I have seen some nice peter storm cagoules on the US ebay though go unsold for months.
Lets get swishy!
Re: Missed opportunities
One day, when visiting our local DIY/anything cheap shop they had green plastic rain suits on sale. One was pinned up on a wall in a display of shiny loveliness, and underneath was a small pile of packaged suits. I was with my family and not brave enough to purchase, but vowed to get one when I was in the store only with my wife. The opportunity arose a few days later, but they had gone! Not even the display one remained. I was gutted. Every time we visited the store (or others in the group as there are several in this part of the country) I looked but never saw them again.

Missed Opportunities:
1) there was a time in my life I found out people would come to me and let me dress them up in lovely rubber boots, rubber gloves, rubber clothing and the cherry on the top of the cake: rain-wear. I know those days have pasted by now.
2) I had a store that sold PVC rain wear and rubber wellies. The store had to be closed because the volume was not there. People did not understand and I was not pulling them with internet posting fast enough.
3) when i was ten years old I went to a second hand store with grand ma. She was busy looking and something and I found a lovely SBR mac and the hat hanging on a rack. It was double sided and had to have been brought over from the UK by someone that may have lived there. Anyway I almost ask grand ma to buy it for me. I was already coming up with reasons to buy it: it was a good price, I would grow into the mac (it was made for a tall person), it felt soft. OH WAIT I CANNOT SAY THAT. We walk out of the second hand store with no mac. Life moves on.

I've often thought if I won lots of money on the lottery I'd open a shop selling just sort of outfits I like, and damn it if I didn't sell much! Then again my wife would not agree and want to travel the world on our winnings.
I once knew a lovely girl who owned an Agu style reversible PVC Mac (yellow one side, blue the other). She wore it a lot. But I was young and an obnoxious toad, and couldn't bring myself to ask her out because she wasn't pretty enough. Now I know I didn't deserve her - Mac or not.

Purely a guess on my part, but it is not surprising that the US missed out on the cagoule thing but it was simple to us.
We could not see anything attractive in it.
LOL, maybe but it was the truth as we saw it.

I'm still annoyed for missing out on a pair of Century 'extra tall' waders. They are very rare and would have been fabulous with a rainsuit.
