Looking back over the topic, it seems that if we wear something "not too far out" then nobody else really notices or cares. It's only when what we wear gets us noticed too much that people take the trouble to look and stare. I also think that we think other people notice us more than they, in fact, do. Generally, I think if it is pelting down with rain then anyone wearing anything to keep dry is going to be okay, regardless of colour and style.

For me, the frisson/buzz/excitement comes with putting myself in a situation where I have no alternative but to wear something a bit "far out" or stuck having to wear something when it is no longer raining because of what I'm wearing underneath that certainly cannot be shown.

I'm right there with Jeff. I have several plastic rain jackets and ponchos and am not reluctant to wear them in the rain. It just seems appropriate, comfortable, pleasurable, and I really don't care if somebody has a problem with that. Fact is, never had anyone comment except to the positive. I like to wear those that are thick and heavy and see through if possible. They're hard to find, but have managed to collect a few. Jackets or rain suits are a little more mainstream than a raincoat, I think, at least stateside.

My wife and I went to the same supermarket again yesterday. Got in the car with my see-through plastic jacket on. This time my wife's sister came shopping with us. Not a single comment. It seemed so natural. I detected a few stares but kept telling myself that they were just thinking how sensible I was to be well protected in the rain and that possibly they may have been wishing that it was them wearing it or something similar.

Yersterday evening a lot of rain here in the Ardennes . So I walked 2 hours under the rain wearing only pvc and latex under my long thick and heavy see throu pvc-u-like raincoat.
I was the only wearing raincoat but nobody look at me.
Very good time.

Stripped off & on with; pair socks, nylon over trousers; green wellies & blue pul mac
Into car & drive to woods -
Then a lovely 1 hrs walk in the rain; wellies / trousers & mac - felt so good.
Met three other dog walkers & chatted - sure one guy liked my wear - he looked in that sort of way - didn't help when I started hardening ..oops

Good walk, then went to paper shop got paper & lottery dressed just like that ; young lady who served me never commented but I was hard. Great fun

Wasn't very daring. Was absolutey chucking it down this morning when I cycled to work. (Is this really mid-summer?) So the no fear rain jacket got an airing along with nylon rainpants. Nobody remarked anything on what I was wearing apart from the boss with his is it raining comments. Yes you fuckin moron it is.

It's been a wonderful week for we mackintosh wearers.......... I've worn one to work everyday and enjoyed being fully protected from the downpours.!! It's been shocking here today and I got drenched doing the weekly shopping this morning despite wearing my long red rubberlined satin mac.I thoroughly enjoyed the feel and sound of it rubbing against my red wellies.!!!
As it was still "chucking it down" this afternoon,I stripped to my bra and short mini skirt,put on my long black satin mac and wellies and went for a long walk with my better half,who wore his rubber riding mac and souwester .My mac soon became very heavy and clung to my sparcely clad body............it was heavenly to feel the rubber lining against my practically bare body.We had a wonderful time and returned home very contented.
We've now hung up our macs next to my still wet red mac to dry and there's a wonderful aroma in the cloakroom. !!

I have no problems in wearing black see through pvc macs that are unisex/male outdoors when raining.No one notices you too much. However,earlier this year I bought a shiny blue rain jacket from internacionale. Felt a little nervous as I handed it over to pay the girl at the checkout,but she made no comment about it though she was quite chatty. I am not into wearing womens clothes by any means and this was my one and only purchase. I wore the jacket indoors occasionally,but one Friday evening in the dark depths of a dark early March evening,I dared myself to walk to my local pub wearing it. ts a 20 minute walk,but only a few people walked past me,there were more cars about,but no one looked my way which I was relieved about. I wasn't brave enough to go into the pub wearing it,so I changed into the jacket I was carrying in a bag and put the raincoat in the bag. I changed again on the way home. The jacket has since gone to a charity shop.I've succeeded with my "dare" to myself up to a point, but give me mens rainwear to go out in anytime!
