Merv: Did you use the southwest and rubber boots?

no, the rain really wasnt that heavy, my trainers were perfectly adequate and a souwester would have been somewhat over the top, my hair is quite short so it soon dries. I find a hat too warm unless its cold out and it was a warmish spring day so no problems with the cold
