I must admit I have never had a problem wearing a mac outdoors

And why wait for it to rain?

Me...I wear a mac for comfort.....a thicker Trenchcoat in the winter for staying warm and and indeed dry

This morning it was dry...cloudy but not extra warm so I gave my brown nylon mac an outing

I met with a fellow mac enthusiast recently and went for a memorable walk...my mac on this occasion was a dark blue unisex double breasted mac in PVC/Plastic

Ideal mac when the weather is unsettled...and we saw a few people out jogging...taking the dog out for a walk or others just walking but did anyone look at us...I wasn"t aware of it but good luck too them if they did

It's been raining heavily this morning and I've just returned home from a lovely walk in the countryside wearing my SBR mac over my long black rubberlined satin skirt and Hunter wellies. After such a long dry spell, it was wonderful to put on the rain gear again !! :D :D :D

I think back to my childhood..(yes it was a longtime ago!)and mum always urged us too carry the plastc mac with us when we went off to school even if the weather for that particular day was hot and sunny "just in case it rained"

These were mum"s favourite words "Just in case it rained"

But on occasions mum was right...there was me and my brother and sister heading home in our plastic macs if there was a summer shower when we came out of school whereas others...well their mum"s would have to go to the school with a raincoat for their offspring OR their offspring would get wet

So needless too say "Old habits die hard" and still now after all these years should I head off I always carry my foldup lightweight mac with me

Just last year I went to a bus rally(yes transport is another of my interest alongside rainwear)

It was held on a disused airfield...one minute dry and sunny...the next the clouds were threatening and the heavens opened and people were running for cover but where is anywhere too shelter on a disused airfield

Me...out came my foldaway mac and I just carried on with an enjoyable time looking at the vehicles

Even if it is dry but looks unsettled I will wear my lightweight mac...why should it have too rain before one wears a mac

Sadly today people worry what others will say and think about what they wear thus so few people seen out in a mac in public

Oh nearly forgot I also wear macs indoors as well

@pvcmac2

Interesting to hear about your interest in buses as well as rainwear, this seems to be a popular combination as I too have a bus hobby, over 200 models, 12,000 photos and I go to the Lathalmond open weekend each year! There is also another bus and rainwear enthusiast I know of who live around 30 miles from me, I wonder if there are any more?, we could organise a meet at one of the rellies and no one would know!

we actually have a bus museum not far from me, you may however find rainwear unnecessary as it still hasnt rained here for weeks even when its pouring in most of the rest of the country the sun still shines here

Hi Merv

Thanks for the info on the bus museum

As you rightly say the lack of rain won"t necessitate the wearing of macs

I am in South East london and no noticeable rain since mid March...not even April showers where you see those without a sensible mac running for cover

Just out of interest I emailed our local weatherman who writes in our local paper asking him for an explaination why the rain "fizzles out" as it approaches the South Eastern corner of the country

His explaination said it all...if this continues we are in for a very dry Summer

He reminded me of a similar situation ...back in 1976

Still I am keeping the mac handy...just in case

indeed pacamac2

even today having been watching the racing on telly, pouring at Chepstow, pouring at Towcester, pouring at Leicester, here in Suffolk the sun was shining although the clouds have come his way but they aren't depositing any wet stuff as of yet.

and you needed a weatherman to tell you that if this continues we will be in for a very dry summer?

on the plus side the grass isnt growing so doesnt need cutting
