I don't think it's a perversion because I wear my pvc rainwear to keep dry and warm on rainy days and I'm a guy from the UK and pretty much no guys and very very few women wear PVC rainwear. I do get some odd locks from people when wearing my raincoats in the rain but I think it's such a rarity to see someone wearing proper PVC rainwear in the rain that others are almost shocked by it. My raincoats aren't show off either as I wear my matte black coat and matte black, Matte dark green and matte grey jackets outside when it's raining. I'm getting a shiny yellow PVC coat for my birthday but that's only because yellow is a classic raincoat colour and used to be worn by fishermen and workmen etc and in some cases they still do today so I don't think it's out of place as I'll still be getting stared at like I was wearing my other coats I mentioned. A woman in the department I work in has a yellow PVC coat and it has a blue and white striped cotton inner lining and she looks so cute in it.
It makes me laugh when people who don't wear raincoats get soaked in heavy rain because they're not wearing a coat at all and they moan about getting wet, what did they expect to happen?
I think others see PVC rainwear as a perversion as prostitutes and dommes, mistresses used to wear PVC raincoats and other PVC garments years ago and their outdated thoughts have stuck right up to the present day.

I rather think that many still do-and make a decent living out of it.
Is it considered a perversion? I've worn one of my macs up to church a few times when it is raining heavily, some of the women have given me a few compliments, one woman even asked if she could borrow it while she went back to her house. As long as you are not doing anything that is offensive then people do not have a problem with it.
In this day and age of 30 odd different genders on offer, I would suggest that the bulk of the population probably would not give a toss as to what you are wearing. They are far more likely to be worried about whether or not their own current look is acceptable. I wear what I like when I like, I have never had any derogatory remarks made, I probably wouldnt care anyway. I dont get you people who hide your macs and anoraks in your cars and only put them on in the dark, on the way home from work. The manufacturers make them for everyone to be worn. Its called rainwear for a reason!!!
I read the comments with interest as I am 82 and have been wearing PVC since the age of 16 as one of my hobbies is sailing. It is only in recent times that new technology has produced alternatives to traditional waterproof clothing.
When you are out at sea, with waves crashing over you, PVC is ideal as the water just runs off and does not soak in. My late wife was a girl of the sixties and she has regularly worn PVC over the years and happily wore it out shopping and to restaurants in the evening. I regularly wore PVC raincoats when we visited places like Cornwall and the Lake District and we were regularly complimented for our choice of suitable rainwear. When I was out shopping yesterday I was dressed in a PVC raincoat and was complimented on my choice of suitable rainwear by the person serving me in my local chemist.
Wear PVC with confidence and enjoy the compliments.
