For me, a cape is made from a material that can be rubberized or woolen but a poncho is more likely plastic.

So its nothing to do with shape or style its more about what its made from?

Mmmm.
Cycle capes go over the head and have no buttons .

I thought it was that capes have holes for you to put your arms through - but cycles capes don't.
I don't think it is about being waterproof either - Michael Sheen was on tv last night in what he called a " cape" and it didn't appear to be from a waterproof material

Perhaps it's all down to terminology ?

I heard a rumour Cinderella had Buttons and he wasn’t a cape or a poncho but apparently he was a very good lay

Capes or ponchos are special to me, love dressing up in waterproofs and finishing off with a cape over the top
