Nylon is a woven material, so I am guessing over time the weave becomes weaker and maybe let's water seep in. Plastic is entirely mpermeable, unless it gets a rip or tear. I have never known a plastic mac leak unless there is a hole. My own cagoule is now starting to do the same as yours - fine in a light shower, but heavy rain gets through in a few places. Trouble is, it is very difficult to say goodbye to an old favourite, especially if you don't have anything to replace it with yet. BTW I would rather be dressed in plastic, but don't have a he guts, so nylon has to do as it is more acceptable.
