I've done a few shoots with pacamacs both plastic and nylon

I love Pakamac-style nylon mac’s. I have some pieces made in Italy. I wear them every day.

My wife has a Target Dry green nylon pacamac.
It doesn't have a bag to put it in like the Cotton Traders one
Both are nice to wear

Nylon is a woven material, so I am guessing over time the weave becomes weaker and maybe let's water seep in. Plastic is entirely mpermeable, unless it gets a rip or tear. I have never known a plastic mac leak unless there is a hole. My own cagoule is now starting to do the same as yours - fine in a light shower, but heavy rain gets through in a few places. Trouble is, it is very difficult to say goodbye to an old favourite, especially if you don't have anything to replace it with yet. BTW I would rather be dressed in plastic, but don't have a he guts, so nylon has to do as it is more acceptable.

I have always depended on plastic rainwear. It is truly waterproof. A little sweaty in warmer weather but impermeable. In colder weather there is the added benefit of the stiffer material rustling and crackling with every movement

Always nylon for me, obvs lol! If I get wet, it adds to the experience, as long as it's not too wet!

Hi Jellyman,

Don't have the guts, eh ? Believe me, it gets easier the more you do it and eventually it seems quite normal to be walking outside in a plastic raincoat, keeping dry for Pete's sake. Yes, you get the odd curious glance but I have also got a knowing smile from passers by. Do it !!!!!

This weekend my wife and I are going to visit relatives in Essex and, as the weather forecast predicts showers, I will certainly be out and about in either my see-through plastic Jeantex "Frank" hooded jacket or my Jeantex "Toni" long see-through plastic mac. The jacket has a zip on the front and the mac button's up the men's way.

Of course, I wouldn't have the guts to wear a ladie's mac out of doors although I often wear them indoors, So my advice would be to get a unisex or men's plastic raincoat and wear it somewhere where you are unlikely to meet anyone you know and avoid any awkward questions. Take a look at Beth Bennet's clip which she posted recently entitled "Midnight Lace" and you will see quite a few men wearing see-through plastic macs; it was fashionable in those days.

Please try it, it's a great feeling.
