Re: Hellooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Domino,
While it's true that phpBB is free it is not free hosted and Paul has to host it on a server. There are some free hosting solutions out there but they are often crummy and covered in advertising. I'm guessing that the problems were due to routing to the old server's host in South Africa (previously mentioned by Paul) and he now said in the other thread that he moved it onto a different server located in the States which seems much faster and given it's location it should hopefully have more stable routing for members.

Re: Hellooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Thanks, darkbeholder. I just wondered whether the South African server had been attacked by the spammers referred to by phpBB as causing it problems. It's good to have this site back to normal.

Re: more site problems
I don't mind running this site, and I really do apologize to all for the down time. Anyone is more than welcome to email me if you experience problems and I will look into it.
For years I have been using a cheap and reliable host that are locally based but their servers are in the USA. This worked very well for more than a decade and I still use them for some sites. When I moved to a proper ISP three years ago it came with free uncapped hosting, so I though I would move all my sites (well most) to my ISP. It was lightning fast for me since I am only 20 milliseconds from the server and it was free.
From time to their servers did seem a bit out of control and back on June Mason did report connectivity issues but that was with one of the links into South Africa. It seems that they have degraded a lot and most of the people I deal with on a daily basis agree that the hosting my ISP does is pathetic despite them being the biggest in SA.
For the time being I am hosting Rainwear Central on one of my old domains until I get the rainwearcentral.com domain transferred back to the servers in the States - where it started out many years ago. I have also upped the hosting space so I will sort out the missing uploaded once the transfer is done.
Once again sorry for the issues you all experienced. Hope it is smooth sailing from here onwards
