Unknown material in the bagging area...

Has anyone else been flummoxed, or surprised by a material that wasn't what they expected?

Recently I purchased a cagoule in a sale. Non-branded £10 new reduced to £3 is hardly expensive in the first place. Looks and feel 100% nylon, with a matte rubberised lining. The lining feels nice against bare skin, but no looker compared to a preferable smooth shiny lining. Anyway, upon getting it home I found it said the outer was 100% Polyester. I was disappointed, but then realised that it looked and felt just like nylon, and if it fooled me, it was as good as the real thing.

Also many years ago in the 70's there was a craze for girls wearing shiny nylon blouson jackets. I liked the navy blue ones with the white stripes down the arm. These are not the satin type that Americans likes, but unbacked raincoat type nylon. One day I had cause to pick up someone's jacket off the floor for a girl (stranger). To my horror I found it was a cotton feel, and had absolutely no nylon feel or noise, yet looked exactly like the true nylon ones.
