What’s going on at Regatta?

I’m not sure what’s going on at Regatta but sadly I cant see them lasting much longer with some of their current ideas
Last year they launched the Takala range of Rubberised jackets and while it’s always nice to see new products IMO the price was far too high at a RRP of £80.00, many seemed to agree with me and the price slowly reduced in a number of steps down to £19.95 - often discounted even lower
So what do they do next, they introduce the Takala II RRP £75.00 and now it’s discounted by 30 – 40%
I’m sure they'll sell a few but how soon will they be trying to sell them off at £20.00, good news for anyone wanting to buy one but unless they are manufacturing them for next to nothing then it can’t be good news for Regatta

I used to be a regatta stockist and they are doing very very well, even opening some of their own stores, rather than just having licensed dealers.
They manufacture all their own materials and products and over the last 6-7 years have been making copies if you like of other big brands best sellers to ‘get the look’ and allow folks to be on trend at a lower cost. The tekla is based on hunters see through plastic mac in this case. Hunter one costs £200 regatta £75 and they probably cost them a £10 or less to make.
For example their stormbreak jackets, the trade price is around £5:25 selling for £20 in most places their packetjacket cagoules trade is around £7-£13 and rrp is £30+
They have over 1000 stores with JD sports alone selling regatta, dare2be and craghoppers, all regatta group brands, plus then cotswold outdoors with 125 stores, i think 35 regatta brand stores, add in all the independents and small outdoor chains like taunton leisure, then all the ski, walking, fashion stores selling dare2be and craghoppers as their middle and higher end brand and then the reselling of fabrics to mountain warehouse and you get an idea just how big a brand, manufacturing and selling power they have. So they can afford to sell at full rrp on their own site to protect and not undercut their stockists unlike other brands do and then when they reduce prices on their site they reduce the trade price for their stockists and they will still be making good margins.
They are probably the most popular brand of outdoor wear on the high street, just look how many folks are wearing regatta coats and jackets, fleeces and cheap walking boots next time your out and about.
They are also lovely to work with and really go out their way to help their stockists so keep their loyalty.
I have to say i miss working with them. They are a real British success and one of the biggest outdoor brands around. Plus still family owned and run.

So with the Takala range basically you’re confirming what I said they make them for next to nothing and sell them for anywhere between £80 and £15.95, considering they still have the original Red version available in all sizes 8 to 20 at £19.95 people don’t consider them value for money even at the lower prices
I’m not sure which Hunter see through plastic mac you’re comparing the Takala with but the nearest from Hunter seems to be the Women's Original Waterproof Vinyl Smock which is £135 on Hunters own website
For those who want to stay ‘on trend’ there is no comparison between the two items, the Hunter item at least has some elements of design while the Takala looks like the Stormbreak made from a rubber type material
The other thing I find quite frustrating with the Regatta website is the complete lack of attention to detail I’m not sure whether this is due to laziness, indifference or lack of product knowledge
The ‘new’ Women's Takala II Rubberised Waterproof Hooded Jacket Yellow Sulphur is described as:
100% Polyurethane coloured transparent fabric
If someone had bothered to look at the product rather than just copy and paste descriptions they might have noticed it doesn’t look very transparent, same problem with the Navy
https://www.regatta.com/womens-takala-i ... w-sulphur/
Obviously I don’t have your knowledge or experience of inside the company I just look at my experience as a potential customer

Looks pretty transparent to me if you select the transparent one from the options 'Also Available' list on the products website page
Perhaps bordering on translucent with the lacey pattern thing on it

If they made the yellow jacket in men's sizing and thigh length (with long enough sleeves which I've found to be a problem when buying a mac designed for a woman) I would buy one

I agree it's irritating the description has just been copy pasted. I do want to know what the others are. I assume pu on polyester.
I don't think this sales tactic is dangerous for them. You see it with other companies that make almost all their sales through other retailers.
I don't know how thier distribution works but I'd assume they don't keep a huge stocks for their own eshop. I've seen similar things where a company will sell a line cheap because new stock of the same item is coming in.
I guarantee they still make profit when they put up those sales. At the quantities they have made it'd be safe to say it costs them little per coat.
Plus you're a captiv audience if you have specifically gone to their eshop over any other stockest. See sales and your likely to get more then one thing.
Before I saw the posts about discounted tekala I didn't even think to look for their own site.
