Whether in West Yorkshire or anywhere else in the world I wouldn't approach a stranger unless I had a good reason, and just because someone is wearing a mac certainly isn't a good enough reason for me

Why do people feel it's acceptable to approach others just because they are wearing a certain item of clothing, the majority of people use rainwear for practical reasons, to keep themselves dry, and aren't 'enthusiasts' and wouldn't welcome approaches from randoms

In a world where people are increasingly concerned about walking alone it’s a shame some people are too selfish or too stupid to consider what their actions might have on others

Rainwear or not, it is a simple enough act to strike up a conversation with a stranger when out walking, I do it all the time. Often people talk to me first, and sometimes i start it. It is easy enough to recognise when people want to be left alone. Personally I think people are becoming more insular and cut-off, and I think it is a shame.

Today has been overcast at times, but often quite sunny, which made it especially nice to see a lady in a dark blue Agu-type Mac, and a girl in, what I can only describe as a PVC shirt, or blouse, or it might have been a dress, but it was certainly strange! I didn’t talk to either of the wearers because the situation was not right, but had it been, I would have struck up a conversation.

A simple ‘hello’ and a smile when passing on the trail is nothing but polite, doesn’t mean i would have to stop them and go into a full on conversation about their choice of rainwear.
