Looking for people to star in a Documentary!

Post by rainmac13 »

Hello, my name is Vivienne and I am an artist looking to do an exciting project on people within the rainwear community. I am hoping to create a mini documentary focusing on all the interesting people in this forum!

If anyone would be up for doing some self-tapes in response to some questions, please contact me. You would be answering questions about your background, interest in rainwear and where this interest began.

My email is vivienneartenquiries@gmail.com if you are interested.

Hello Vivienne... would be happy to correspond by email but I'm not ready to "out" my interest, sorry. Please let me know if this is of interest?

I hope you get a lot of support for this very interesting project however

Hello, my name is Vivienne
Hm... strange that "Vivienne" gave herself "rainmac13" as nickname. Why not just "Vivienne..."?
I am an artist looking to do an exciting project on people within the rainwear community
Exciting for whom?
If anyone would be up for doing some self-tapes in response
Yeah, this would be "Vivienne's" dream, wouldn't it?
You would be answering questions about your background, interest in rainwear and where this interest began.
I'm in "the business" for 5 years now - one of the most common movie requests was to have girls talk about the roots of their rainwear love... well... basically of exact the questions listed here. Seems to be a real 'scientific' / 'neutral' background I guess...
Setting up a gmail account is a matter of <5 minutes. Why should anyone trust this?

I tell you what...:
Rainmac13 - you're looking for a great source of self-taped, real-world rainwear clips and this is appealing you to a good degree. The story you built up to gain people's trust is a little bit too flat / obvious (the question is: Why invent a fake-story at all?). But maybe I'm mistaken, who knows. Prove me I'm wrong and I even might contribute sth. as well... :geek:

Have to agree with nerzman here.

Trust will be a big issue: why would anybody film themselves sharing very personal information with somebody who uses a gmail account and has no previous documentaries listed showing how they approach such a "sensitive" subject like someones sexual preference? Even if you were making a documentary, how would they know its not going to be titled "look at these dirty freaks"?

Just to build trust, please share some of your previous art projects. Next don't ask for anonymous online contact, just invite people over to your art studio or a public place to talk with them about the aspects of the documentary you are making. What is your goal exactly, how are you qualified to tackle this, etc. And don't let people make their own videos answering questions, set up a decent studio, get professional lighting and sound, and interview them personally. Its difficult to make an appealing documentary if part of the shots are made by a grainy webcam with bad sound.

Hello everyone,

I understand your wariness regarding my initial prompt as it is rather vague - the reason for this is that my idea for this project/documentary is still in the works. I'm an art student and came across this site whilst doing research on Susie Boult from Plastique Unique. I originally signed up for this site to see if I could get in contact with her for an interview of some sort. Sadly, no luck.

Seeing as I am not able to get in touch with her, I thought I would take the opportunity to see if I could involve some other people in my practice and therefore made my original post.

I thought this site could be a starting point to get in contact with other people in the rainwear community. If you would be interested to see some of my artwork or just to start a conversation, feel free to email me and I'd be happy to chat.

Please understand it happens on a regular basis that people claim to be working on an art or historical project about some brand or type of rainwear, asking for help, only to disappear soon after. And as said before, it doesn't help that you cannot share a clear vision, previous documentary work, or anything to build your credentials while asking for people to make videos for you in which they share you possibly their deepest secrets they cannot even tell their family or partner.

I would recommend building a level of trust first.

Vivienne,

Tell us a bit more about what you are trying to achieve.
Is this for art coursework?
Is there a theme?
What aspect of rainwear are you interested in, is it the garments or people’s reactions to them?
You are not likely to get images of actual members so what format could you use that gets your message across without needing members.

You are welcome to use content from any of my posts on this forum, and I am happy to answer questions, but only in this forum in public if you are being honest about your intentions.

I know that selling people on art ideas can be quite a challenge, and that an idea needs time to grow and take form, so you won’t know what it is going to look like until it is done.

Here’s giving you the benefit of the doubt, now prove me right girl!

I took this as a good chance to get folks to send material in that will be then used to black mail them for cash or the footage be sent to their friends and family, there are scams like this going around already. Personally, i’d avoid and run for the hills!
Lets get swishy!

Given the lack of response from Vivienne it looks like everyone was right to be cautious. I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt. When I’m wrong I say I’m wrong; nobody puts JellyMan in a corner… without his mac!
