I bought a shiny black PVC men's Dannimac trenchcoat from the old Army and Navy Stores in London's Victoria Street when I first started working in the early 1970's. It was very smooth and featured silver buttons but was a "shorty" in style, hence the perennial problem of wet thighs. There were also some very long PVC macs, black or maroon, available for men at the time but you probably needed to have the figure-and the long hair-to carry them off successfully.
