Bit of holiday fun, as the year draws to a close, let’s vote on our best ever piece of rainwear. The rules:

1. Put forward your idea of the best ever piece of rainwear, describe in as much detail as you can.
2. Members score your idea 0 - 5, where zero is “hate it” and 5 is “totally brilliant I must have one now!”
3. Item MUST be rainwear, so plastic pants, gloves, aprons etc., are not allowed. Rain boots, macks, capes, waders, jackets, hats etc., are allowed.
4. The person suggesting the item automatically awards that item one score of five points.
5.I will collate results and announce the highest scoring three items on New Year’s Day.

I’ll start:

Glass clear plastic one-piece rain suit. Elasticated wrists, waist and ankles. Zipped jacket. No pockets. Hood with drawstrings. Almost exactly like this, except waist is elasticated, rather than belted:

Good luck, and may the best rainwear win!

What a great idea. I love any cagoule, I love all cagoules, but my favourite for 2022 has to be this one from Decathlon. The material is really crispy, very waterproof, and the lining is lovely and sticky. It feels incredibly nice to wear in the rain with the hood up, even better if you have nothing on underneath:

I’ll give you a 2 score for that. Nice but just needs more shine as far as I am concerned.

Can you score my suggestion please?

Probably score nil for mine as very rare anyone will have one, but mine is my ex navy original oilskin mack which is lovely and glossy and smooth and has the most wonderful smell. Only negative it has no hood.
JM scores 4 for me
antcagoule - sorry only 1

Thanks Johnny, that’s exactly how I thought this would work. Heavy rainwear is not really my thing, but I’ll give you a 2 for the glossy and smooth description (yummy)! But, your suggestion doesn’t have to be something you own, or even something specific that you have seen, you can base it on a garment then describe how you would make it even batter, such as adding a hood if you want. The more detail the more people will be able to imagine more accurately how it would be.

This is a shiny PVC trenchcoat that my partner (Bettina) bought in Illums (Copenhagen department store) in the 1990s. It is a lilac-coloured cotton-backed PVC mac (similar material to Rukka macs) and has a lilac-coloured silk-cotton lining. The mac also features epaulettes, wrist straps, storm flaps (back and front) and a belt that goes through PVC ringlets around it. In addition, it has diagonal pockets that fasten with silver metal press-studs and a press-stud fastener at the very bottom of the mac to keep it firmly closed in really foul weather. I've enclosed 3 pics of a model (NOT my partner!) wearing the exact same mac.

Hi Spitfire! I wouldn't think so mate - she bought it back in the 1990s when she was on a trip from Berlin to Copenhagen. Maybe they come up on Ebay from time to time. I know Rukka macs do so maybe this type of mac does too.

Since nobody is taking any notice of scoring, I give up. Just post whatever you want.
