Any psychologists out there?
Right from a very young age I have always loved the feel and the look of really shiny macs, coats, jackets. Anything wearable really. As I get older its getting worse! The mirror glass pvc, now being made is truly amazing. I cant stop buying it off aliexpress! Worse, Ive now found a company in china who state they will make bespoke items given a design or photo to copy! My wife has the patience of a saint but.....
How on earth can I cure myself of this addiction? Of course the hard bit is that I dont want to be cured!!!

Just keep buying shiny gear and enjoy it .

The only thing I might suggest is to spend more time on other things you enjoy, it's perhaps easy for me to say this, my fetish only really kicks in when there is rain on the way and if I have time to get out and enjoy the wet weather.

You can tie yourself in knots trying to work out why you are the way you are. Or just enjoy it! Just make sure it doesn’t negatively affect people around you and all will be fine. Make sure you don’t spend money you can’t afford.

Yes. Good advice. The money thing isn't a problem. Its the need to have a thing, I need to control. I see something and want it! I have a large room full of stuff. I look at it feel it and must keep it. I cannot bring myself round to parting with any of it. Many items I hardly ever wear, or want to wear, but I can't part with them!!!!

I can relate to your predicament totally. I have spent my entire life questioning why?!?! I have long since given up and have just accepted the fact that I love it all, Im happy, and thats got to be good. There are so many unhappy people out there. So why deny yourself. Just enjoy it.

Sounds like you are combining a collecting hobby with your rainwear desires. Plenty of people collect things with no purpose other than ownership, it’s very common. I knew a chap who collected beer mats, and a girl that kept buying fabric (alas not PVC) and had a huge stash, yet only rarely made clothes out of any of it. Money may not be the issue but space might be. I have in the past bought shiny items that turned out to be less pleasing than I had hoped, but struggled to get rid of them. I suspect that you don’t wear some of your collection because in the back of your mind is the thought that you could be wearing something else that you find more appealing. When I had a fuller wardrobe of PVC I always went back to the old favourites!

When ebay came along 20 odd yrs ago, I had a mass clear out. It was a god send. I sold all my old and unwanted pvc stuff. There was no end of buyers! Now because new pvc is readily available from China, the second hand market has now died Off. Ive tried to sell some surplus stuff on ebay and vinted, but without much success. Short of giving it away, which I wont do, Ive taken to the sewing basket and started creating my own fantasy items. Quite successfully too! Being retired gives me the time.

I am no psychologist. For me I had the attraction to, appreciation for all things vinyl/pvc, rubbery, shiny from an early age. I would have fantasys at age 5 or 6 of being in pvc vinyl with two drysuit rubber suits over that. I can’t explain it.

For collecting, collect what you like, keep the collection reasonable.

Serious answer...why wouldn't anyone love the look and feel of shiny vinyl?
