Great find, Rothbhoy, I so remember those lovely racks of Macs in C&A (big sigh!) The video is wonderful for the delicious sound of crackling all the time that Sheila is moving, and when Billy puts his arm around her. Thanks as always.
Another stunning example. Love the bold colour. Did some research on Elizabeth Lax and apparently she died in 1996 of a heart attack at the age of 46. Very sad to read.
Cor, the crackling/rustling noise of that shiny red PVC mac gets my pulse racing!
That's definitely PVC (I don't think it is PU), but I wonder what the plasticizer is?
Where can one find traditional raincoats or puffer jackets/bubble coats made from ultra-shiny and crackly PVC like this? In shiny red or shiny black?
All the contemporary shiny or wetlook puffer jackets are made from a non-PVC material and are nowhere near as shiny as this, nor do they make the same 'crackling' noise. Only PVC, made in a certain way and containing a specific plasticizer, makes this noise and is shiny to this degree. Is the 'formula' for this ultra-shiny and 'crackly' PVC lost to history?
This 1974 sitcom was years before I was born, and I wish I was born in an earlier era so that I could enjoy PVC in its 'heyday'.

Cheers Priscilla - glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, those C&A macs - WOW! My GF at the time (Helen) had 2 (one in white - like in the episode, and one in blue that had differently styled pockets).

Cheers Niton - glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the info re: Elizabeth Lax - so sad to read that.
PS: Got a nice clip of Millicent Martin in a shiny black PVC mac plus matching mini-skirt to put up shortly - you might well enjoy it!
