Are there anyone from the United States that has a raincoat fetish?
If so, are there any stores that carry PVC raincoats?

Well I do!

All our rainwear both PVC and rubber-lined were bought in England.

I would have to agree that pure raincoats seem to be more of a British thing. I've had some luck over this past year finding plastic or pvc rain suits, coveralls, and NBC stuff that is appealing and found only stateside. The styles, though are pure unisex. Some of it from motocross raingear, karting, and the like. Always up for thick, frosty clear stuff.

For the past couple of years Target stores have offered some nice looking stuff in the springtime. 2-3 years ago they had some awesome old '80s style "jelly jackets" in blue, yellow, red & orange. Last year they had some nice glossy pu-coated cotton hooded ladies rain jackets in red, yellow, purple, kelly green & aqua. But high quality rainwear is hard to come by here in the states. I only find good stuff on ebay or I have to order from overseas...I'd say around 1995 or so was when the rainwear market in the states dried up (no pun intended).

Totally agree with Bill, above. If you want utilitarian stuff you can get a poncho, or cheerleader type rain jacket, or get into the motocross, bike rainwear area, but that's about it and seems like even that is getting more scarce. We need to get a fashion trend back!

Bill,

I'm not sure it's such a new situation. In the 1940's and 1950's the American trenchcoat was a rather floppy item. British trenchcoats as made by Burberry or Aquascutum were highly sought after, but I doubt were so readily obtainable.

There is also little to no rainwear wearing culture Down Under either ... Apart from the ubiquitous Drizabones (mainly country) and Goretex jackets, virtually nobody wears plastic or PVC rainwear of any description here, even if its very wet. Most people just use umbrellas and all too many people appear to prefer getting wet, than well ... appear wet wearing a RAINCOAT! :-(

It absolutely poured last Melbourne Cup Day, and nobody had any wet weather protection whatosever part from cheap & nasty flimsy $10 disposable ponchos!!

I have been trying to find those jelly Target raincoats for years!!! I have been to at least 10 different Targets and its been frustrating. Ebay doesn't even have them.
If anyone knows anything about them or how to find one please let me know...
