Good luck to who ever is the seller.

They dont dictate the price it reaches, unless they set a silly reserve

Silly people!

A new one can be obtained from suppliers for less than a 1/5 of the price.

Ah well!

Far out ... prices are really galloping along now

Thank God I got in when I had the chance during the last couple of years: I've got four beautiful shiny red macs (including a genuine Rukka) ... God knows how much they'd cost now *sigh*

Frankly, I'd rather see these beautiful raincoats remain at affordable levels so everyone can enjoy wearing them though.

The bidding did not increase in the last 24 hours so the raincoat sold for £605.00GBP. Will the next gloss pvc Rukka style raincoat on e-bay break this record?

Not necessarily. Certain colours sell better than others

Shiny yellow is numero uno, especially if it is a shiny yellow Rukka, preferably with a belt: they are worth their weight in gold.
Shiny red is very close to yellow for popularity. Rukka again, is #1 but anything else will also go for crazy money. An unbranded glossy red mac went for 380 euros the other week.
Shiny blue isn't far behind
Shiny green and maroon are the least popular colors, but good, clean green examples still go for 200+ pounds easily.

Matte anything ... forget planning for early retirement. A matt red Rukka with a quilted lining only fetched 25 pounds on e-bay this morning.

I wish someone seeing this ridiculous amount of money go for that coat would re-introduce making these sorts of raincoats.

They could easily go for £200 / £300 new and there would be plenty of interest. All that is produced these days is cheaper, thin coats that last no time ! Surely if the technology to seam weld PVC was available in the 1980s, it would be even easier to make now.

its the world of difference between selling a single coat on ebay to producing something which is commercially viable. Without knowing what motivates the bidders to pay such stupid amounts for such a coat it is difficult to know what sort of market there would be for new products. I suspect it would be very limited, after all when the high street do actually sell pvc coats how often do you actually see them being worn in the street. As I have said before I would love to know what actually happens to these coats after they are bought

Well, I'm no spokesman for Rainmac but they have their "retro range" and their prices are less than 1/6th of the price and new.

My wife has 2, one in black PVC and one in lilac!
