New Retro Mac

I have a blue Retro Mac on order from Honour in London and hope to be collecting it from them soon. It will be worn mainly indoors. I wear a PUL PA3 mac in the rain because it is not obviously a ladies mac to my mind, but the Retro Mac is more obviously a ladies mac. Am I being stupid for being wary of wearing it outside,as I would feel more self consious wearing this mac outsidethan the other macs?

I take it from that you are male. If so then probably unless you are into cross dressing and dont mind the world knowing it. Seeing a guy wearing womens clothing out, whether it is a raincoat or anything else may be considered slightly odd even in these more enlightened times

Yes,Merv, I am a male, but not into cross dressing or anything else. I was just "testing the water" for thoughts.I just like the look of this mac,and will enjoy wearing it for my own pleasure indoors.

well others may have different opinions, personally think that wearing obviously womens clothing in public is best avoided, people will judge, whether we like it or not and unless you can rise above it then stick to wearing such things in private, that is only my opinion and others may well think otherwise which is fair enough

It all depends on so many things PVCLOVER.
Sometimes you can get away with darker colours like Navy, Black or Grey even in womens raincoats depending on the style, when vibrant bright colours would certainly attract attention.
Sometimes it just depends what the weather is doing - obviously on a sunny day it would be a big attraction to you when on an overcast day few would notice.
It all depends on how brazen you are naturally or at times where you live, ie you would get away with more daring styles in a city when if you lived in a small town and knew loads of people it would be harder to wear what you like.
From a personal point of view I decided when I started buying SBR rubber trenchcoats that they were too expensive to just wear around the house, after all they were'nt designed to be fancy dressing gowns !
Any rainwear is costly these days, so go ahead and wear your new Blue mac out in public. The chances are unless it is electric blue that on a rainy day no-ones cares as most are too concerned with themselves I have found.

As ever, good advice from Merv and Jjai.
It takes a lot of guts for a bloke to go out in plastic or rubber rainwear these days; I've been doing it for a number of years now but the adrenalin still goes mad whenever I wear a see-through plastic mac or jacket in public. I've never done a bungee jump but I assume it's the same sort of feelling.
If, like me, you are rather introvert, keep it low-key and avoid bright colours. Outdoors, I have only worn items in natural see-through plastic because that is my preference although I would also wear black, grey and dark blue as long as it was see-through.
I am spending a few days in Blackpool next week and I will be taking my see-through Jeantex Toni raincoat with me in the hope that it rains and I will be able to enjoy walking in the rain laughing at all the other people getting wet even though some of them might have those useless and ugly thin polythene "ponchos" on. I will also be taking my Jeantex poncho with me but I don't know whether I will pluck up the courage to wear that outdoors.
I hope you wear your new mac outdoors. You won't be hurting anyone and life is too short to worry about what other people may think.
Regards,
Jeff.

Hi PVC Lover
My view would be if you have a mac you like wearing then wear it whenever you feel inclined to, be it indoors or out. Certainly if its raining then wear it outdoors. Its a mac, your mac, and you are a gentleman not a lady, its not crossdressing as Merv suggests.
I regularly wear my red full length hooded nylon mac by Rainmac in public, in fact this morning I wore it walking the dog and there was hardly a cloud in the sky. I even met another dog walker and we talked about all sorts without a mention of my mac. I sometimes wear my long navy nylon cape which was made I suppose for women but as I wear it its mine. I also wear several other macs all hooded and in nylon and wear them all the time when out specially in the rain, never a problem and even get compliments about my nice mac. I do understand that nylon is not the most popular choice on this forum but for me its the nicest to wear and those originally made for the fairer sex feel the nicest and have the best colour range too. Wear your new mac with pride.

Hi Spitfire,
Plastic rainwear by Jeantex seems to have bitten the dust unfortunately. However, they certainly used to make really nice ponchos, the Lars for men and the Andrea for women. I have one of their see-through Lars ponchos and it is really exquisite, so soft and very well made.
There might be stocks somewhere in Germany. Please take a look at the link below
