Reversible PVC Vinyl

Post by chris227 »

Hello,

Does anyone know of any sources to buy reversible PVC vinyl raincoats? I am particularly interested in the ones that were popular in the 80s-early 90s in the US. The kind with contrasing stripes on the sleeves would be a real plus.

A company in Australia makes them, and they are nearly perfect except for the fact that they are only made in children's sizes (see link below).

I know those raincoats; they are nice indeed.

The big size one is quite roomy indeed.

Do you want me to try find one for you?

Cheers,

adult? You have seen these made by Team Austrailia in person? Do you think the largest size is big enough for an adult? If so, yes I would be very interested. What would be the best way to contact you?

Hi Chris, I did not see any adult ones as such, but the largest size 16 versions they made would have fitted a small adult easily. I have not seen any around but I'll check out a couple of stores I know. You can PM me easily through the RWF messaging system

If you go to the German e-bay you can probably find the Yellow and Blue reversible raincoats.
They are normally canvas on the Blue side and a rubber/PVC Yellow side with a hood.

They are very good quality, I think they are still being made there.

If you type in 'Friesennerz' or something similar you should be able to find one, it seems they are quite popular.

Reviving Thread: Reversible PVC Vinyl

Post by chris227 »

Hello,

I did some research and wanted to revive this thread ...

The blue / yellow reversible 100% PVC raincoats that were popular in the 80s-90s can still be produced. They are currently made as children's rain wear. I work in international trade, so I did some research and found the company producing them. They've told me that they can be cut to order (even in adult sizes). The caveat, of course, is that a certain minimum order is required. I am curious what the price point of such a raincoat might be among enthusiasts, and how many people could be interested in purchasing one.

I do not intend to make a profit on such an order, but I would like to see if there is enough interest to revive such a wonderful raincoat so that we could all have one (or as many as we would like since this likely would be a one time shot). Does anyone have any interest, ideas, or contributions this thought? I would be happy to orchestrate such a plan, but it would take some doing as a group effort. I'd love to see these raincoats come back - even if it is just among us enthusiasts.

I'd be interested - can you show us what kind you are talking about?

I remember wearing the most gorgeous rainsuit which was shiny, shiny smooth yellow on the outside and blue in the inside. They also came with rainpants too but I have never seen anything of the like again except the odd jacket that pops up on eBay now and again.

Guys

If it helps I could buy a chunk of coats and using my qualified importers I could arrange to get them back to the UK, first grab could go to all rainwear forum subscribers that are showing an interest and all that are left over I could sell through PVC-U-LIKE. I could order say 25 of each size say 125 altogether plus whatever you guys want and then the manufacturer may be interested in giving us a good price?

Anyway, the offer is there if you want it, but obviously you can do your own thing if that is preferred.
