Further to my previous message , I have now tried out this raincoat in the rain - where I live in California received over 5 inches in 24 hrs last week !
It is excellent & doesn't seem to generate any " inner condensation " - which is a problem with others I have used . I would have , ideally liked it to be 2-3 inches longer but the longer one is too long for me . In really heavy rain you do need rain pants as well !

Why are all raincoats/mackintoshes made small?

I know that my wife would hate getting wet knees and loves her mackintoshes to be below her knees.

Help please!!

Never understood that. You'd think that if the primary function of a raincoat was to keep you dry in the rain, they'd make more of them full-length. Who actually enjoys having soaking wet pants from being out in the rain for even a short time?

And not just my wife!

Both of my mackintoshes come below the knee.

The only way to get a long enough raincoat for a man seems to be to have it specially made which can be costly. One advantage of the Rainmac PVC macs for ladies is that they come long and they offer a shortening service so my wife has had her two macs shortened to the length she wants.

You may well be right.

Both my mackintoshes were made to order, one by Lakeland and one by Dark Horses.

As you say, not cheap but my knees stay dry.

Does anybody know where I can get some waders that go above the knee, but not up to the groin?
I wear my, just below the knee Helly Hansen pvc raincoat, for walking the dog but, unless I wear overtrousers as well when it's raining a fair amount, the wind blows the bottom of the raincoat aside (and the water drips off the bottom of the coat) which means that I end up sopping wet from above the knee downwards
Ideally, some waders that go a couple of inches above the knee (say 27 inches or so in height) would be great but the only ones I can find are 'Storm Kings' (maybe made by LaCrosse) from the US which means they'll end up very expensive with shipping & import duties
