I've noticed more girls and guys wearing wellingtons to school in the rain and it reminded me of when I did likewise many years ago. I am wondering if other posters here have seen teenagers wearing wellingtons to school.
I now there are lots of colourful wellies available for girls of all ages, but is the wellington making a come back with fashion-conscious kids at school?
My school wellies were shiny black and I had to wear them, no protests were tolerated by my mum.
Love to hear other people's views.

Re: wellingtons
I wear colourful wellingtons (and raincoat) in public; I haven't received any adverse looks or comments, although I'm still not confident enough to go out where it's really crowded.
Re: wellingtons
Here in the USA, wellies have been a trendy fashion accessory since 2005, at least among females ages 15-35, with teens & twentysomethings preferring the cheaper colorful print wellies, while fashion-forward professionals go for Burberry or Hunters. Hunters exploded in popularity around 2006 or so when the likes of Kate Moss & Angelina Jolie were photographed wearing them, and they subsequently became more widely available in the states. Men who wear wellies are few and far between, and at least in my case, tend to get funny stares from other men if they wear them for any reason other than hunting. Women on the other hand tend to compliment us, appreciating our good sense in being fully prepared for the worst Mother Nature has to offer.

Hi Bill P
You mentioned last month your wife's preference for short brown Hunters so as not to look like a "dork". Do you get less odd looks with them? Do they seem more acceptable? What exactly is the model (or what link would show a photo of that style/model?)

Re: wellingtons
Oh- I meant to say Hunters for you to wear- not her. I am sure the tall yellow ones for her you talk about are totally in style for women.

Here's what the short Hunters look like:

I suppose they are a tad more socially acceptable, particularly the brown & black. If you don't tuck your pant legs into them, they can kind of appear "camoflaged" as dress shoes. Whereas when I've worn my tall wellies in public I have occasionally gotten snide comments from ignorant rednecks such as "you going duck hunting today?" I do live in Wisconsin, where going against the norm is greatly discouraged, and the locals are quite resistant to change of any kind.

Re: wellingtons
There are places in Melbourne where I wouldn't want to wear Wellingtons (or shiny raincoats) of any description, such as Frankston - it's the bogan capital of Australia, possibly the world
"bogan": A person who is, or is perceived to be, unsophisticated or of a lower class background, more or less analogous to the British term chav or US American term redneck; An anglo-celtic member of a lower socioeconomic group historically classified by the wearing of black clothing, but more usually, ill-fitting tracksuit pants, other equally daggy clothing, worn-out sneakers or moccasins. They're also invariably unshaven and/or have untidy long hair.
As you can imagine, the majority of these creeps are neither tolerant or understanding - total hypocrisy considering how badly dressed THEY are!!

Re: wellingtons
Almost every single girl at my University wears wellies during the winter. It's a wonderful sight! It always makes me wonder how many of them are just buying them for fashion or whether they actually do, genuinely, 'like' them.
Re: wellingtons
Do they wear their wellies even when it's not raining at University?
What styles do they wear?
Do they wear them under their jeans or with jeans tucked in?Any photos?
